Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Joey De Andreas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yoshihiro Takaya (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). De Andreas kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Rocky. Takaya has chosen Jimi Hendrix - All along the Watchtower as his entrance music. Joey De Andreas could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Yoshihiro Takaya's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 13 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Joey De Andreas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 12 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Yoshihiro Takaya!
The judges for this bout are , Don Winkell and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Some wild striking there from De Andreas.
Nice body punch from Takaya.
Takaya throws a jab but it's blocked by De Andreas.
De Andreas misses with a two punch combination.

and Takaya counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
De Andreas misses with a series of wild punches.
De Andreas stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and De Andreas wants it to stay on the feet.

De Andreas is trying to push Takaya away but Takaya has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
De Andreas has had enough of the clinch but Takaya keeps him there for the moment.

Takaya gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
De Andreas tries to get to full guard but Takaya has control of the leg.
Takaya looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks De Andreas with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Takaya is taking a breather. De Andreas says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Takaya scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Takaya is trying to control the action in half guard but De Andreas is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
De Andreas is on the bottom, trying to hold on to half guard. He's throwing a few small shots here, to keep his opponent honest.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Takaya looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Takaya landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
The fighters are battling for position here. De Andreas manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Yoshihiro Takaya will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Takaya fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Takaya slips a jab and a cross from De Andreas.

Takaya shoots in looking for a takedown. De Andreas tries to sprawl out of it but Takaya keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. De Andreas manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
De Andreas slaps away a takedown attempt from Takaya, before circling back to the center of the mat.
De Andreas wants to clinch up but Takaya keeps it at a distance.
De Andreas thuds a left hand into Takaya's body.
De Andreas misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
De Andreas throws a head kick but Takaya moves out of range.
De Andreas swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Takaya counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Joey De Andreas seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

De Andreas moves in looking to clinch but Takaya pushes him off.
Takaya throws a body punch but De Andreas moves out of range.

Takaya throws a right and a left that De Andreas avoids nicely.

De Andreas works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.

and Takaya counters with a shoot takedown. De Andreas fights it but they end up in guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

De Andreas is looking for a triangle but Takaya pushes his legs off easily.
De Andreas wants to sweep but no luck.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

De Andreas has momentary wrist control but Takaya slips an elbow through the middle.

Takaya seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but De Andreas does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
De Andreas wants to improve his position but Takaya is controlling well.
Takaya wants to take a breather but De Andreas is having none of it.

De Andreas wants to control but Takaya is having none of it.
BOOM! Takaya connects with a massive shot to the dome!

De Andreas tries to lock up and control but Takaya gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Takaya postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. De Andreas looks a forlorn figure.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
De Andreas is desperately trying to improve his position but Takaya has a good base and remains in mount.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

An out of breath Yoshihiro Takaya thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
