Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Roman Kowalski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ruslan Kalinin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kowalski comes into the arena with Reptile Theme blaring out of the sound system. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Roman Kowalski!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ruslan Kalinin!
The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Fedor Mirinova and Aleksandr Martynov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kowalski misses with a head kick.

Kalinin closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Kowalski pushes Kalinin off looking to stand but Kalinin dives back in and keeps control.
Kalinin missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kalinin is working for a kimura but Kowalski is defending it quite comfortably.
Kowalski is trying to control but can't.

Kalinin is looking to advance position but Kowalski won't allow it.

Kalinin is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Kowalski defends it well.

Kalinin works his foot free and advances to mount.

Kowalski knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Kalinin on the ground.
Kowalski sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.

Kalinin is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Kalinin is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Kowalski is trying to stand.
Kalinin is trying to control. Kowalski wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Kowalski wants to get back to his feet.
Kowalski moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Kalinin tries to stand but Kowalski is controlling from the bottom.
Kalinin forces his way into half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Kalinin uses his free foot to push down on Kowalski's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Kowalski.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ruslan Kalinin dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


A head kick misses from Kowalski.
Kalinin swats away the attempt to clinch by Kowalski.
Kalinin shoots in looking for a takedown. Kowalski tries to sprawl out of it but Kalinin keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Kowalski manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Kowalski tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Kalinin has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Kowalski finds it's way round the side to connect with Kalinin's head.


It looks like Ruslan Kalinin has been cut.
Kowalski misses with a body shot.
Kowalski throws an ugly left hook that misses

and Kalinin counters with a shoot takedown. Kowalski fights it but they end up in guard.

Kowalski has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Kalinin off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Kalinin gets tackled into the cage by Kowalski. Kowalski maintains the clinch.

Kowalski tries a knee to the head but Kalinin blocks it.

Kowalski with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
A nice right hand lands inside from Kowalski.
Kowalski tries to land a knee to the head but misses.

Kowalski tries a knee to the head but Kalinin blocks it.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Kalinin can't break the clinch.

Kowalski lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!

Kowalski throws a knee to the head but misses.
Kowalski using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Kalinin has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Kalinin can't get the takedown.
Roman Kowalski has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ruslan Kalinin.
Kalinin tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Kowalski just stands there and leans against the cage.
Kowalski throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Kalinin blocks it with crossed arms.
Kalinin is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Kowalski pulls him back up using the underhooks.
A head punch on the inside from Kowalski fails to land.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Kalinin is looking to take this one to the mat.
Kowalski lands a nice uppercut.
Kowalski with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Kowalski lands a knee to the head.

Kalinin tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Kowalski smiles and moves away.
Kalinin displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Kowalski throws out the jab.
Kowalski throws a predictable looking body shot

and Kalinin counters with a single leg into guard. Kowalski didn't expect that.
Kalinin wants to pass the guard but Kowalski is keeping the position.

Kalinin postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Kowalski is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Kalinin, into his guard.

Kowalski avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Kalinin preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Kalinin had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Kowalski defends it easily.

Kalinin is looking for a triangle but Kowalski pushes his legs off easily.

Kalinin is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Kowalski has his hands clasped together but Kalinin extends an breaks Kowalski's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Kalinin.
