PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between el Steveo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Akisame Koetsuji (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Koetsuji has chosen Ultimate Battle as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, el Steveo!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Akisame Koetsuji!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Tatsuya Matsuyama.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Steveo takes one to the chin there.
Koetsuji throws a poor cross that misses
enabling Steveo to counter with a crisp jab.
Steveo ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Koetsuji moves away.
Steveo slips a jab from Koetsuji.

Koetsuji closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Koetsuji tries to land a knee to the head but Steveo blocks with his arms.
Koetsuji is pressed up against the cage. Steveo has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Koetsuji down to the mat. Koetsuji avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Steveo has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Koetsuji.
Koetsuji throws a body punch but Steveo moves out of range.
Koetsuji misses with a wild combination.
Koetsuji throws a head kick but Steveo moves out of range.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Steveo throws a sloppy body shot
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.

Koetsuji cracks Steveo with an uppercut from hell and Steveo crumples to the canvas, he's out! Oh no, he's recovered and he's grabbed one of Koetsuji's legs and pulled him into guard. The ref thought about stopping it there but he's let it go - good reffing!


Steveo is rocked!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Koetsuji throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Steveo works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Steveo wants to stand but Koetsuji is controlling the position.

Koetsuji has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Koetsuji thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Steveo is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Koetsuji is controlling him.

Koetsuji loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Koetsuji sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Steveo's guard.
Steveo regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Koetsuji.
Koetsuji throws a strike but Steveo rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Koetsuji lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Steveo!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Steveo is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Koetsuji throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
Koetsuji landing strikes from the mount.
Oh Steveo is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
A big strike lands for Koetsuji! That's really hurt Steveo and he's turned his back - Koetsuji keeps firing away and the ref dives in to stop the fight! Koetsuji jumps to his feet to celebrate the victory!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:37 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Akisame Koetsuji! Akisame Koetsuji retains his welterweight title!
After the big win, Akisame Koetsuji made sure to do all the important stuff like thanking his sponsors ATTICUS BLACK and telling the interviewer how much he loves him.
