Nagendra's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, The Liberty Bell - John Philip Sousa. Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Montgomery Nagendra!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 11 - 0, fighting out of London, Ben Backman!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Richard Clark and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nagendra dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Nagendra shoots in for a takedown but Backman shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Backman tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Nagendra was well out of range. Poor timing from Backman.
Nagendra fails with an attempt to clinch.
Backman dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Backman throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Nagendra looks for a takedown but Backman sprawls well.
Backman misses with the combination.
Backman with a nice cross.
Backman throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Nagendra takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Nagendra shoots and misses
and Backman counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Nagendra is breathing heavily.
Backman swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Backman stuffs the takedown attempt from Nagendra. Nagendra gets slowly back to his feet.
Nagendra takes one to the side of the head.
Backman tries a head kick but it misses.
Nagendra shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Backman throws a shot from downtown. Nagendra moves away and avoids it.
Backman scores with a decent looking hook.


It looks like Montgomery Nagendra has been cut.
Ben Backman is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Nagendra doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Backman counters with a one-two to the body.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Backman slaps away a takedown attempt from Nagendra, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Backman scores with a shot to the body.
Nagendra takes one to the chin there.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Nagendra has his takedown stuffed
and Backman counters with a nice uppercut.
Backman tries to land a front kick but Nagendra steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Backman scores with a punch to the head.
A left and a right from Backman both land. Nice combination.

Backman drops Nagendra with a beautiful combination! Nagendra stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Backman is looking for the KO!


Nagendra is rocked!
Nagendra gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Backman counters with a nice body shot.
Oh Nagendra is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Nagendra dodges the punch combination from Backman.

Backman cracks Nagendra with a big right hand that sends him crashing to the floor. Backman has the opportunity to follow him to the ground but instead he's beckoning Nagendra to stand back up!
Backman cracks Nagendra with a nasty uppercut that draws ooohs from the crowd and sends Nagendra tumbling backwards onto the mat. He tries to recover but Backman pounces and lands a hail of unanswered strikes that forces the referee to step in to end the fight! Nagendra is not happy but he gave the referee no choice!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:46 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ben Backman!
Ben Backman was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
