PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jim Carlo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ronaldi Rolf (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Carlo comes to the cage accompanied by NFG-Anthem for the Unwanted. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jim Carlo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ronaldi Rolf!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Summer Carpenter and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Carlo closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Carlo lands in his opponent's guard.
Carlo in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Carlo tries to free his leg and advance position but Rolf is retaining full guard.
Rolf wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Carlo has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Ronaldi Rolf wasn't active enough on the ground.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Carlo is defended easily by Rolf.

Carlo closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Rolf to the mat! Rolf manages to get full guard.

Rolf is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Carlo throws a big elbow that misses.
Rolf is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Carlo had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Rolf defends it easily.

Rolf is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Carlo is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Carlo has escaped and now he's on top!

Rolf is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Carlo pulls his head out easily.
Rolf tries to roll over but Carlo keeps him under control.

Carlo is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Rolf is just riding it out for now. Carlo eventually gives up the hold.
Rolf manages to get to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Jim Carlo will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Rolf wants to clinch up but Carlo keeps it at a distance.

Rolf looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Carlo is fending him off so far but Rolf persists. Nope, Carlo circles away and we're back to standing.

Carlo just misses with a punch to the body.
Rolf is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Rolf is concentrating on defense, preventing Carlo from advancing position.

Rolf has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Carlo is working away from the top position though.
Rolf gets back to full guard.
Rolf is controlling Carlo's posture.

Carlo tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Carlo throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Rolf works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Rolf regains full guard. Nicely done.
Rolf looking to hit a scissor sweep but Carlo is one step ahead there.
Carlo with a flurry of punches that miss.
Rolf is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Carlo stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rolf swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Carlo is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Rolf has managed to free his arm - good work.
Carlo moves nicely into side control.
Rolf is looking for a sweep.
Carlo creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Rolf sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Carlo is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Rolf knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Rolf gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

I really don't envy Carlo right now.

Rolf is persistently looking for the submission but Carlo is defending it well.

Carlo postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Rolf is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Carlo, into his guard.

Ronaldi Rolf comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Rolf has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
