PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jonny Stevens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pena Trasseli (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Trasseli comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Look at my horse! kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jonny Stevens!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Pena Trasseli!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Matti Vanhoillinen and Tarja Halkonen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice sprawl there from Trasseli as Stevens shoots in.
Stevens checks a leg kick.
Pena Trasseli seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Trasseli lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Trasseli tries a head kick but it misses.
Stevens shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Trasseli but Trasseli pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Trasseli throws a head kick but Stevens moves out of range.
Stevens shoots in but Trasseli avoids the takedown attempt easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jonny Stevens. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Stevens has his takedown stuffed
and Stevens takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Trasseli pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Stevens looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Trasseli is fending him off so far but Stevens persists. Nope, Trasseli circles away and we're back to standing.

Trasseli displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Stevens.

Stevens throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Trasseli was covering up waiting for the punch and Stevens finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Stevens stays in close to Trasseli's body and controls the position.
Stevens is fighting to break Trasseli's control of his arms but Trasseli is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Stevens trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Trasseli manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!
Trasseli must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Stevens is controlling Trasseli's posture.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Trasseli won't allow Stevens to sweep him here.
Trasseli connects with a couple of short punches.
Trasseli stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Stevens swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Trasseli stands and throws Stevens's legs to the side, diving into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Stevens manages to get back to half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Stevens wants to control but Trasseli is keeping busy.
Trasseli tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Stevens.
Trasseli thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Stevens's head.

Trasseli throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Stevens to regain full guard.

Trasseli gets to his feet. Stevens looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
A decent looking body kick lands there for Trasseli.
Trasseli throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Stevens circles away from the clinch attempt.

and Trasseli counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Stevens fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Trasseli stuffs the takedown attempt from Stevens. Stevens gets slowly back to his feet.

Trasseli has Stevens up against the cage in a clinch.

Stevens is fighting off a takedown attempt but Trasseli is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Stevens to the mat. Stevens regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Trasseli throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Trasseli tries to free his leg and advance position but Stevens is retaining full guard.
Trasseli missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Stevens working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Trasseli.
Stevens is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Trasseli's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


A telegraphed takedown attempt from Stevens is defended easily by Trasseli.
Trasseli turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Trasseli throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Stevens.
Stevens uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Trasseli.
Trasseli swings and misses with a hook to the body.

Stevens fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Trasseli sprawls well initially but Stevens persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Trasseli wants to get back to his feet.
Stevens prevents Trasseli from improving his position.

Stevens is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Trasseli defends it well.

Stevens is keen to just control but Trasseli is a slippery customer.
Pena Trasseli has got the better of the ground game so far.
Trasseli wants to improve his position but Stevens is controlling well.
Stevens with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Stevens throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Stevens looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Jonny Stevens just wasn't active enough.
Trasseli throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Stevens doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

Pena Trasseli is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Stevens is rocked!
Trasseli feints a kick and comes over the top with a right hand, followed by a left hook - both land, sending Stevens crashing to the mat! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:13 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Pena Trasseli!
An out of breath Pena Trasseli thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
