PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bernard Shamrock (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Angel Chavez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Shamrock comes into the arena with Sepultura - Roots Bloody Roots blaring out of the sound system. Chavez has chosen Mexican Mariachi as his entrance music. Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Bernard Shamrock!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Angel Chavez!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chavez connects with a nice looking jab.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Shamrock has closed the distance and engaged Chavez in a clinch.
Shamrock putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has Chavez in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body.
Chavez wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Shamrock lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Chavez backwards.


It looks like Angel Chavez has been cut.
Chavez on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Chavez blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Shamrock tries a knee to the head but Chavez blocks it.
Shamrock gets through Chavez's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Chavez has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Chavez wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Shamrock lands with a left to the head.
A frustrated look appears on Chavez's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Chavez looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Shamrock misses with a knee to the head.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
Shamrock looks to throw an elbow but misses.
Chavez tries to break the clinch but Shamrock is controlling the position.
Chavez blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Chavez's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Shamrock lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Chavez backwards.
Chavez wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Shamrock has Chavez pressed against the cage, preventing Chavez from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Shamrock misses with some punches.
Shamrock goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Shamrock connects with a knee to the head.

Shamrock lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.
Chavez avoids the elbow strike from Shamrock, against the cage.
Shamrock is working for takedown but Chavez is calmly controlling the position for now.
Chavez on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Chavez tries to circle away but Shamrock has him pinned against the cage.
Chavez wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Chavez working hard to break the clinch.
Shamrock looking to throw knees to the head but Chavez is blocking nicely.
Shamrock misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Chavez.
Chavez prevents a body shot from Shamrock.

Shamrock has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Chavez is trying to keep an underhook but Shamrock manages to get the takedown into half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Shamrock in particular looking to stall.

Shamrock not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Shamrock slows the pace down in half guard.
Chavez really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Shamrock. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

We're going to have a standup here because Bernard Shamrock wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Chavez ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Shamrock moves away.
Shamrock thuds his shin into the meat of Chavez's side.
Shamrock misses with a low kick as Chavez jumps back.
Shamrock throws a poor cross that misses
and Chavez counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Chavez fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Chavez throws an overhand right that lands on Shamrock's shoulder, as Shamrock tries to avoid the shot.
Shamrock throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Chavez.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The cut man is working on Angel Chavez's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Chavez throws a poor cross that misses
and Shamrock counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Shamrock throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Chavez throws a low kick, looking for Shamrock's leg but Shamrock calmly moves out of range.
Chavez avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Chavez throws a nice looking combination but Shamrock bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Chavez takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

Chavez clinches.
Shamrock unloads a knee to the mid-section.

Shamrock tries to score a body lock takedown but Chavez shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Shamrock lands a nice elbow.
Chavez is trying to force a seperation but Shamrock has the dominant position.
Shamrock lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Come on Shamrock - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Shamrock throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Chavez blocks it with crossed arms.
Shamrock misses with some punches.
Chavez wants to break free but Shamrock has control.
Shamrock misses with a hook to the ribs.
Shamrock lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.


That has opened up Angel Chavez's cut even more.
Shamrock with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Shamrock misses with an elbow over the top.
Shamrock lands a big knee! That's hurt Chavez! Oh, he's all over the place! Shamrock lands another knee that sends Chavez to the floor and the referee steps in to end the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:18 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Bernard Shamrock!
Bernard Shamrock took to the mic in his post fight interview and said 'Thank you NexGen Fight Team in Tokyo!!! you made this happen, WHOOOOO!!!!'.
