PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hugo Z Hackenbush (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jaxson Powers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Powers is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by "Chase That Feeling" by Hilltop Hoods. Jaxson Powers has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Hugo Z Hackenbush!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jaxson Powers!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, John Kavanagh and Bruno Lombardi.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hackenbush shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Powers pinned against the cage. Powers gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Hackenbush throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Powers's waist but Powers gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Hackenbush off to one side.
Hackenbush stuffs the takedown attempt from Powers. Powers gets slowly back to his feet.
Hackenbush shoots for a double leg takedown but Powers sprawls well. He's pushed Hackenbush's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hugo Z Hackenbush. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hackenbush throws a hook to the side of Powers's head but Powers sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Powers darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Hackenbush tries to roll over but Powers keeps him under control.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Powers moves nicely into side control.
Powers is looking to take a break and control but Hackenbush is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Hackenbush gets back to half guard.
Powers prevents Hackenbush from improving his position.
Powers looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Hackenbush with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Powers seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Hackenbush is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Powers thows a huge punch but Hackenbush dodges it nicely.
Powers is looking to take a break and control but Hackenbush is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Powers is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Powers seems to be working for a kimura but Hackenbush defends the submission attempt.
Powers looks gassed!

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Hackenbush works the jab nicely.

Hackenbush closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Powers tries to roll over but Hackenbush keeps him under control.

Powers gets full guard.

Hackenbush drops back looking for a leg! Powers is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Powers manages to kick Hackenbush off! Hackenbush jumps back into Powers's guard.

Hackenbush wants to control from the top but Powers keeps moving.
Powers looking to hit a scissor sweep but Hackenbush is one step ahead there.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Powers can do anything to dispel that myth.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Hackenbush accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Hackenbush shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Powers as he jumps to the side.
Powers stuffs the takedown attempt from Hackenbush. Hackenbush gets slowly back to his feet.
Hackenbush circles away from the clinch attempt.

Hackenbush scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Powers wants to get back to his feet.
Hackenbush works his way into side control.
Powers really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hackenbush. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Hackenbush wants to lay and pray for a moment but Powers keeps working.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Hugo Z Hackenbush will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Hackenbush looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Powers wants to clinch up but Hackenbush keeps it at a distance.

Powers shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Powers stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hackenbush swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Hackenbush might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Hackenbush is trying to keep Powers in close.
Hackenbush throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

Hackenbush had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Powers is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Hackenbush Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Powers's back instead.
Hackenbush is looking to control Powers but Powers is wriggling around and keeping busy.
Powers tries to break free.

Powers breaks Hackenbush's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Powers is looking to stand up but Hackenbush won't let him.
Powers controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Hackenbush keeping moving, preventing Powers from controlling successfully.
Powers is breathing heavily.
Powers throwing strikes from guard but Hackenbush blocks nicely.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Hackenbush manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Powers has given up his back here. Will Hackenbush look for the submission or keep pounding away?

Hackenbush wants to control but Powers manages to buck him off and is now in Hackenbush's guard! Nice work there by Powers!

Hackenbush has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Powers should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Hackenbush has tightened it up now! Powers should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
