Smith is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Shoot to Thrill. Lars Ulrich has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Steve Montenegro and John Kavanagh.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ulrich tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Smith manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Smith shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Ulrich napping and manages to drive through into side control!
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Ulrich tries to improve position but can't.

Ulrich manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

and Ulrich holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
A frustrated look appears on Smith's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Smith tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Ulrich smiles and moves away.
Smith is trying hard to land a takedown here. Ulrich sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Lars Ulrich has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mason Smith.
Smith looks gassed!

Ulrich drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Ulrich controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Ulrich forces his way into half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Smith is not content to let Ulrich control the position.
Ulrich content to control rather than advance.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Ulrich lands a nice short elbow.

Ulrich seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Ulrich stalling away here and it's allowed Smith to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Smith is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Ulrich's corner is telling him to maintain position.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Ulrich stands up over Smith, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Smith is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Ulrich pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Ulrich ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Ulrich no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Oh but Ulrich is tightening it up a little... Smith has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Smith reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Smith taps out! Nice BJJ there by Ulrich!
