Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Matthew Phoenix (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Silvan Wilkens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Phoenix's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Bath Salt- ASVP Rocky, A$ap ANT, flatbush zombies. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Matthew Phoenix!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Silvan Wilkens!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Reed Andrews and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wilkens loads up on a big right hand but Phoenix slips the punch.
Wilkens missing with a left hand there. Phoenix was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Wilkens misses with a looping left.
Wilkens avoids a punch combination nicely.
Wilkens misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Phoenix.
Phoenix jabs Wilkens right on the nose. Wilkens blinks but takes it well.
Wilkens dives in and grabs Phoenix's left leg, looking for a takedown. Phoenix pushes down on Wilkens's head and hops out.
Phoenix connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Wilkens's hands.
Wilkens takes one to the chin there.
A slow jab from Phoenix misses its intended target.
Phoenix is looking to clinch.
Wilkens just misses with a punch to the body.
Phoenix lands the left hand.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Phoenix displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Wilkens.

Wilkens throws a push kick but Phoenix slaps the foot to one side.
Wilkens moves out of range as Phoenix strikes.
Matthew Phoenix seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Wilkens keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
Phoenix ducks down and throws a hook to the body.

Wilkens gets tackled into the cage by Phoenix. Phoenix maintains the clinch.

Phoenix throws a low kick but it's checked well by Wilkens.
Phoenix tries to close the distance and clinch up but Wilkens swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Phoenix misses with a two punch combination.

Phoenix tries to sprawl but Wilkens drives through with a takedown into half guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Wilkens looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Phoenix is trying to maintain the position but Wilkens is very close to passing his half guard.

Wilkens seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Phoenix does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Wilkens thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Wilkens content to control rather than advance.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Silvan Wilkens was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Phoenix slips under a jab.
Nice jab there from Phoenix.
Phoenix misses with an uppercut.
Phoenix throws a body punch but Wilkens moves out of range.

Wilkens takes a swing at Phoenix's ribcage but misses.
Phoenix fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Wilkens checks it well.
Phoenix throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Wilkens stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Phoenix throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Wilkens throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Matthew Phoenix is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Phoenix misses with a hook
and Wilkens counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.


It looks like Matthew Phoenix has been cut.
Phoenix is looking to chop away at Wilkens's legs.
Phoenix misses with a few strikes there.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Phoenix moves out of range of the strikes.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Phoenix avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Wilkens keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Wilkens looks to throw the jab but Phoenix is out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Wilkens fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Phoenix tries to close the distance and clinch but Wilkens swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Wilkens uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Phoenix.
Phoenix throws a sloppy body shot
and Wilkens counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Phoenix lands a lovely overhand right.
Wilkens misses with a low kick.
Wilkens loads up on a big right hand but Phoenix slips the punch.
A clash of legs there as Wilkens blocks the low kick.
Phoenix fails to land with a series of punches.
Wilkens staying out of range there.
Matthew Phoenix is winning the standup battle so far.
Phoenix looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Phoenix paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.

Wilkens moves out of range as Phoenix strikes.

Wilkens sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

Wilkens is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Phoenix is surviving well by controlling Wilkens's body position as best he can.

Wilkens looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Phoenix wants to hold on but Wilkens pushes him away.
Wilkens throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Phoenix because Wilkens loaded up on that one.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Wilkens tries to control but Phoenix wriggling away.

Wilkens moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Phoenix has worked his arm free - good work by Phoenix!
You can see the frustration on Phoenix's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Wilkens postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
The ground and pound from Wilkens seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Wilkens tries to move into full mount but can't pass Phoenix's legs.
Phoenix takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wilkens is looking to take a break and control but Phoenix is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Wilkens in side control, throwing shots but Phoenix defends.
Wilkens creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Phoenix sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Wilkens is trying to ground and pound but Phoenix uses the momentary lack of control by Wilkens to regain half guard.
Phoenix on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

Phoenix slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Phoenix steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Wilkens.
Wilkens thows a body shot but no joy.
Wilkens misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Phoenix misses with a low kick.
Phoenix slaps away a takedown attempt from Wilkens, before circling back to the center of the mat.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Wilkens checks a leg kick.
A telegraphed right hand from Phoenix misses the target.
Phoenix tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Phoenix throws a body punch but Wilkens moves out of range.

Phoenix uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Wilkens.
Wilkens checks a leg kick.
Phoenix throws a lazy right hand but Wilkens sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
A big right from Phoenix misses.
Phoenix drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.

Wilkens is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Phoenix.
Phoenix misses with a leg kick.

Wilkens shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Wilkens is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Silvan Wilkens has got the better of the ground game so far.

Phoenix keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Wilkens content to control rather than advance.
Wilkens working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Phoenix's thigh. Phoenix counters though and makes it back to full guard.

Phoenix is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Wilkens has gone for a leg lock! Phoenix slips out almost immediately though and dives into Wilkens's guard.

Wilkens is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Phoenix is aware though and is defending well.
Wilkens is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Wilkens has his foot on Phoenix's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Phoenix works his way back into a safe position though.
Phoenix wants to control from the top but Wilkens keeps moving.

Wilkens is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Wilkens thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Wilkens wants to hit a switch here but Phoenix passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Wilkens there!
Wilkens is looking to improve his position but Phoenix isn't that keen on the idea.
Wilkens flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Wilkens sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Wilkens wants to control but Phoenix is keeping busy and won't allow it.

And that's the end of the fight!
Silvan Wilkens comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Wilkens has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
