PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jacob Mason (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and tj Wash (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Wash's choice of entrance music: you dont know. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jacob Mason!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, tj Wash!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Daniel Franklin and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mason throws a right and a left that both miss.
Wash throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Wash pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Wash stuffs the takedown.
Wash leaves Mason with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Nice sprawl there from Wash as Mason shoots in.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jacob Mason. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Mason gets a clinch.

Wash pulls Mason into guard.
Wash is looking to stand up but Mason isn't so interested in that idea.
Mason throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Wash works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Wash wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Wash utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Wash is striking but Mason is not phased and passes to half guard.
Wash has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Wash utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Wash pulls Mason in close to his closed guard and prevents Mason from doing any damage or advancing position.
Wash is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Mason is controlling him.
Wash throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Wash is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Mason drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Wash manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Mason has Wash in his guard.

Wash seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Jacob Mason just wasn't active enough.

A jab from Wash finds it's way through Mason's defenses.

Wash closes the distance and clinches.
Wash has Mason pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Mason manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Wash has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Mason uses from the top position.

Wash is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Mason defends well.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


The fight stays on the outside here - Mason looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Mason tries to bum rush Wash with a series of wild strikes but Wash uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Wash defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Mason.

Mason shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Mason was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Mason is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Wash has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Wash tries to reverse the position but Mason maintains control.
Mason can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Wash is looking to escape.

Mason moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Wash has worked his arm free - good work by Wash!

Wash is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Mason's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Wash changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Mason tries to avoid it but Wash manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Mason to the ground. Mason escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Wash tries to land a leg kick but Mason saw it coming and moves away.
Mason shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Wash as he jumps to the side.

Wash closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Mason's guard.

tj Wash showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!



Wash darts in and clinches Mason up against the cage.

Mason breaks the clinch.
Mason tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Wash comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Wash fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Mason tries to score a power double leg takedown but Wash sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Mason somewhat.
Wash shoots in but no luck this time.

A head punch on the inside from Mason fails to land.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Wash fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Jacob Mason has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of tj Wash.

Mason is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Wash's half guard.
Mason thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Wash's head.
Wash is looking for a sweep. Mason is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Wash is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Wash is staying active underneath Mason, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Mason working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Mason is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Mason takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Mason throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Wash to regain full guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Wash wants to sweep but no luck.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Wash shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Mason but Mason pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Mason shoots in looking for a takedown but Wash manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Mason's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
