PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between GK King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and The Beast (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, GK King!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, The Beast!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Damien Edna and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
King shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Beast but Beast pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Beast slips a jab and a cross from King.
GK King seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Beast rushes King and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Beast is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

Beast has hold of one of King's legs. King is fighting the takedown attempt but Beast gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Beast stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. King swivels though and keeps the full guard.
King trying to keep a closed guard but Beast is proving a slippery customer.
Beast trying to control the position from guard on top but King is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

King working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Beast doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Beast manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

King escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Beast gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Beast slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

King looking for a guillotine here but Beast defends easily.
Beastis looking to pass into half guard but King pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now King is in guard.
Beast has his hands on King's head, controlling the position.
King thows a big elbow that misses.
King looking to sit in guard and control but Beast gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

King looking for a guillotine here but Beast defends easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

King working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Beast doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Beast manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
King is breathing heavily.
Beast chips away with some ground and pound.
Beast controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
King is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Beast passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Beast tries for a kimura but King is defending well.
King takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
King manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
King tries to roll over but Beast keeps him under control.
King manages to get to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
King manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Beast manages to get himself to full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Beast seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
King works a leg free and moves into half guard.

King is working for a kimura here but Beast manages to reverse the position and he's now in King's guard.

King working for a triangle but Beast defends it easily.
King manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Beast manages to get himself to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that GK King will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


King shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Beast as he jumps to the side.
King shoots in for a double leg but Beast sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Beast closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Beast lands in his opponent's guard.

King has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Beast can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

King is working an open guard so Beast takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Beast misses the shot to the body.

Beast has King up against the cage in a clinch.

King wants the takedown. Beast is fighting it off but King persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Beast's guard against the cage.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Beast wants to stand up but King is controlling him.
King is pushing down on Beast's leg trying to pass to half guard. Beast is fighting to maintain full guard but King has managed to sneak the leg through.
King is pressing down on Beast's thigh, looking to free his foot. Beast is holding on for now.

King is trying to work for a kimura but Beast is defending well.
King prevents Beast from improving his position.
King is keen to just control but Beast is a slippery customer.
GK King overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
King is thwarting Beast's attempts to control the position.

King looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Beast has one foot on King's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

Beast bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Beast thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
King prevents Beast from improving position.
King is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Beast content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
King manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Beast is pressing down on King's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Beast keeping moving, preventing King from controlling successfully.
Beast is looking to stand up but King isn't so interested in that idea.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Beast uses the cage to get back to his feet.
King throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
King throws a big shot that misses.

King scores a takedown into full mount!
Beast is trying to get back to his feet but can't.
King takes Beast's back. Could be looking for a rear naked choke here - either way, Beast is in trouble.
Beast controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position.
Despite being in a bad position, Beast is controlling the hands, preventing any submission attempts.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but The Beast will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


King throws a right hand that Beast ducks under and follows up with a left that Beast also avoids with ease.

King drives through with a takedown into guard.

King drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Beast manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now King has Beast in his guard.
King is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

King is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Beast stands up from King's guard - Beast perhaps looking for a knockout.
Beast avoids a punch combination nicely.

King throws a right and a left that both miss.
King throws a looping overhand right but Beast ducks down to avoid it.
King throws a right hand that Beast ducks under and follows up with a left that Beast also avoids with ease.
King shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Beast counters with a takedown into side control.
King is looking for a sweep.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Beast controlling the position from side mount.
King wants to control but Beast postures up.

Beast decides to stand up, so the ref orders King to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
King swings and misses with a shot to the body

and Beast counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
King avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Beast.

King actively working from the bottom here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Beast performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
King tries to roll over but Beast keeps him under control.

King looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
King wants to improve his position but Beast is controlling well.

King is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Beast's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Beast's back!
King thows a huge left but connects with the canvas and not his opponent.

King is working for a rear naked choke. Beast is not defending it well and King has tightened it up quickly! This could be all over! Beast refuses to tap and goes to sleep, forcing the referee to intervene. A little trickle of blood came out of Beast's nose as his head slumped to the floor. That is naaaasty!
