PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between YB Sol (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andrew Carter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sol comes to the cage accompanied by SFIV - Theme of Ryu 2. Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, YB Sol!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Andrew Carter!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Steve Smith and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sol jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Carter tries to close the distance and clinch up but Sol swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Carter shoots in for a takedown but Sol shows good takedown defense.
Carter misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Carter dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Sol scores with a shot to the body.
Sol's corner calls for a 1-2. Sol obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

Carter drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Carter tries to free his leg and advance position but Sol is retaining full guard.
Carter being controlled here momentarily.

Carter has gone for a leg lock! Sol slips out almost immediately though and dives into Carter's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Carter looking to hit a scissor sweep but Sol is one step ahead there.
Sol slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Sol stands up and waves to Carter to follow him.
Carter shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
YB Sol has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Andrew Carter.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Carter changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Sol tries to avoid it but Carter manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Sol to the ground. Sol escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Sol misses with a looping right.
Sol throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Sol throws a lazy right hand but Carter sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

The fighters circling - Sol throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

Sol closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Carter to the mat! Carter manages to get full guard.
Sol trying to control the position from guard on top but Carter is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Carter working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Sol doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Sol manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Carter bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Sol's guard.

Carter drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Sol dives on top into guard.

Sol gets to his feet - Carter follows without any prompting.
Sol lands a jab to the head.
Sol connects with a good right hand that stumbles Carter. Carter circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Carter fails with the takedown
and Sol counters with a slapping leg kick.
Sol looks to score with a jab to the body but Carter is just out of range.
Sol avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

and Sol counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Carter swings away with a body shot that misses
and Carter takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Sol is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
Carter is looking to clinch.
Sol keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
No joy there for Sol, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Carter gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Carter takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Sol throws a big shot that misses.
Sol keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Carter ducks right into an uppercut from Sol.

Carter drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Sol tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Carter wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sol manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Carter wants to pass the guard but Sol is defending well.
Sol is not content to let Carter control the position.

Carter seems to be working for a kimura but Sol defends the submission attempt.
Sol is not content to let Carter control the position.
Sol blocking the ground and pound attempt from Carter.
Sol wants to get back to his feet.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Sol misses with a double jab.

Carter gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Sol counters with a straight right hand.

Carter displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Sol throws out the jab.

Carter takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.

and Carter counters by moving into the clinch.

Carter pulls guard effortlessly.
Carter wants to sweep but no luck.

Carter throws his legs up looking for a submission but Sol uses it to pass to side control.

Carter takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Sol lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Carter at a distance.
Carter throws a predictable looking body shot

and Sol decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Carter's guard.
Carter has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Sol has passed into side control.
Carter tries to buck Sol off but Sol is having none of it.

YB Sol overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Sol takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Sol sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Carter is looking to improve his position but Sol isn't that keen on the idea.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Sol throws a jab but it's blocked by Carter.
Carter wants to clinch
and Sol cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Sol lands with a hook. Carter tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Sol smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Sol fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Carter shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Sol counters with a stiff right hand.

Carter looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Carter is absolutely dripping with sweat - he looks exhausted.
Carter trying to get back to full guard but Sol takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!
Carter wants to control but Sol is having none of it.
Carter bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Carter stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Sol swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Sol has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Carter off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Carter scores with a takedown into Sol's guard.
Carter throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Sol works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Carter looking to sit in guard and control but Sol gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Carter working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Sol has passed into half guard!

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Sol avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Carter is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Sol keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Carter misses with an uppercut. Sol saw that one coming.
Carter shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Carter closes this distance looking for a takedown but Sol circles away.
Carter has a pretty nasty looking mouse under his right eye.
Carter avoids a kick to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Carter tries to clinch there but Sol circles away.

Sol is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Carter.

Sol gets caught flat footed, as Carter shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Sol keeping moving, preventing Carter from controlling successfully.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Carter accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Carter trying to control but Sol is working from the bottom.
Carter might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Sol kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Carter is wobbling all over the place through exhaustion. Will he make it to the final bell?
Carteris looking to pass into half guard but Sol pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Sol is in guard.
Sol wants to get up but he can't break Carter's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Carter shoots in looking for a takedown. Sol tries to sprawl out of it but Carter keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Sol manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Carter drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Carter with the ground and pound but Sol regains half guard under the barage of strikes.
Carter not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Sol trying to control but Carter postures up.
Carter thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Sol's head.
Carter wants to pass the guard but Sol is defending well.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Carter throwing shots but Sol is blocking nicely.
Carter thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing Sol to regain full guard.

Carter is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Sol is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Sol has escaped and now he's on top!

Andrew Carter has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

I would just about give that final round to Andrew Carter.
