The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Don Winkell and Jack Bonds.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fight moves into the clinch position.
Martinez looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Martinez tries to break free but Rodriguez pushes him back against the cage.
Rodriguez lands a nice elbow.
Martinez on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Rodriguez decides to pull guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Rodriguez is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rodriguez is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Martinez changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Rodriguez looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

You get the feeling that Martinez really doesn't like being in this position too much.

Rodriguez seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Martinez for as long as he can get away with.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of JJ Rodriguez.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Rodriguez shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Martinez's guard.

Rodriguez has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Martinez uses from the top position.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Rodriguez got a little sloppy there for a moment and Martinez has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Rodriguez has managed to get both his arms back between Martinez's legs - danger averted.

Rodriguez ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Rodriguez no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Rodriguez's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

JJ Rodriguez tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
