PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Peter Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jonah Sumrall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jones comes to the cage accompanied by Ennio Morricone - The Return of Ringo. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Peter Jones!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jonah Sumrall!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Paulsen Ambrosius and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones darts in trying to clinch
and Sumrall counters with a nice uppercut.
Jones throws a low kick but it's checked well by Sumrall.
A low kick from Jones misses
and Sumrall cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Jones misses with a leg kick
and Jones takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Peter Jones seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jones has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Sumrall finds it's way round the side to connect with Jones's head.
Sumrall checks the leg kick.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Jones is defended easily by Sumrall.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Jones throws a leg kick
and Sumrall counters with a solid body kick.
Sumrall fails to land with a series of punches.

Jones closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Jones lands in his opponent's guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Jones tries to free his leg and advance position but Sumrall is retaining full guard.
Sumrall pulls Jones in close to prevent any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jones trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Sumrall manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

Jones had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Sumrall defends it easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jones looking to control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Sumrall stopping the sweep attempt from Jones.
Sumrall trying to control the position from guard on top but Jones is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Jones has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Sumrall can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Jones looking to hit a scissor sweep but Sumrall is one step ahead there.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Jones is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Sumrall wants to stand but Jones is controlling his posture from full guard.

Jones is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Sumrall defends well.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Sumrall controlling from the top position.
Sumrall postures up.
Sumrall stopping the sweep attempt from Jones.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Jones keeping moving, preventing Sumrall from controlling successfully.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Peter Jones will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Sumrall misses the jab.
Jones is looking to clinch.
Jones throws a solid leg kick but Sumrall takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Jones.
Jones fails with the takedown.
Jones misses the shot to the body.
A lazy body kick from Jones
and Sumrall counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Jones misses with a head kick.
Jones shoots and misses
and Sumrall counters with a low kick, right behind Jones 's knee.
Jones looks to land a body kick but Sumrall moved away.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Jones fails with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Peter Jones. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Jones throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Jones blocks a jab.
Sumrall throws a lazy right hand but Jones sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Jones shoots for a takedown but Sumrall saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Jones takes the fight into the clinch.
Jones can't get the takedown.
Jones goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Sumrall prevents a takedown attempt there.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Sumrall lands with a light punch inside.
A short right from Sumrall on the inside.
Jones slows down the pace here.
Sumrall on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Jones tries for a takedown but Sumrall manages to get underhooks.
Sumrall lands a shot to the body.
Jones is trying to pull guard but Sumrall has him pressed against the cage.

Sumrall escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Jones fails with the takedown.
Jones fails with an attempt to clinch.
Jones throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Sumrall's waist but Sumrall gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Jones off to one side.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
A low kick from Jones misses
and Sumrall counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Jones misses with a leg kick
enabling Sumrall to counter with a crisp jab.
Jones throws a leg kick that is checked
and Sumrall counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Jones shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Jab by Sumrall.


Jones is rocked!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Sumrall closes the distance and lands a brutal uppercut that knocks Jones out! We're looking at the replay now - he was out before he hit the floor!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:38 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Jonah Sumrall!
Jonah Sumrall is the new light heavyweight champion!
