PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mike Hawk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Max Power (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hawk kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genuis that is Everytime I Die. Power has chosen miehen tyo as his entrance music. The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Mike Hawk!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Max Power!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Daniel Bishop and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hawk misses with a few strikes there.
Power's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Power duly obliges.

Power clinches up with Hawk and pushes him back against the ropes.
Power lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Power prevents the takedown attempt.
Hawk is trying to maintain a safe position but Power gets an underhook and turns Hawk into the ropes.
Hawk wants to break free but Power has control.

Hawk lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Hawk lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Power tries to get to full guard but Hawk has control of the leg.
Power is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Power is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Hawk pulls his head out easily.

Hawk is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Power defends it well.

Hawk works his foot free and advances to mount.
Hawk moves to the back.

Power is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Hawk gets his way!
You can see the frustration on Power's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Hawk avoiding Power 's attempts to control his hands.
Hawk looking to hold on to the position here but Power rolls and ends up regaining guard.
Hawk throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Power works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Power keeping moving, preventing Hawk from controlling successfully.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Hawk has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Power is proving hard to escape from.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Hawk tries for a takedown but Power sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Hawk is breathing heavily.

Power rushes Hawk and presses him up against the ropes.
Power stops a takedown attempt from Hawk.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mike Hawk. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Power drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Hawk gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Power lands a body punch.

Power breaks the clinch.
Power scores with a spinning back kick!
Hawk looks to clinch

and Power counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Hawk lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.

Power kicks Hawk off and gets back to his feet.

Power rushes Hawk and pushes him back against the ropes in a clinch.

Power breaks the clinch.
Hawk tries to clinch up

and Power counters with a nice double leg into guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Power throws a big right hand that misses.
Power postures up.
Power wants to control from the top but Hawk keeps moving.
Hawk is trying to keep Power in close.
Hawk tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Power postures up.
Power trying to control the position from guard on top but Hawk is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Hawk swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Power counters with a shoot takedown. Hawk fights it but they end up in guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Max Power dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!

Power avoiding damage as Hawk throws knees to the body.
Hawk tries to break the clinch but Power is controlling the position.
Hawk fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Power stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Hawk tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mike Hawk. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Power scores a nice knee to the body.

Power breaks from the clinch.
Hawk tries for a takedown but Power circles away easily
and Power counters with a series of strikes. Hawk will be more careful next time no doubt.

Power moves into the clinch.
Hawk tries to pull guard but Power won't allow it.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Power is working for takedown but Hawk is calmly controlling the position for now.

Hawk gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Power slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Power is trying to keep Hawk in close.
Hawk wants to stand but Power has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Hawk trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Hawk trying to control but Power is working from the bottom.

Power looking for a guillotine here but Hawk defends easily.
Mike Hawk overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Hawk pushes down on Power's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Power is trying to escape back to his feet but Hawk uses the scramble to pass into side control.
Power is not content to let Hawk control the position.
Power really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hawk. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Hawk is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Power is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Hawk looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Power is avoiding damage well.
Power trying to control but Hawk flips him over like a cheap hooker and has his back!

Power tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

Hawk is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Power has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Hawk moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Power has worked his arm free - good work by Power!
Hawk controls the position.
Power gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!

Hawk can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Power is looking to escape.

Hawk throws some shoulder strikes here and then postures up. Oh, he's gone for an armbar! Power has his hands clasped together but Hawk breaks the hold and Power is forced to tap! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over! That was lightning fast by Hawk!
