Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Cain Velasques (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dean Johnsson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Cain Velasques!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dean Johnsson!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnsson throws a hook but Velasques blocks it.
Velasques cracks Johnsson with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Velasques on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.

Johnsson closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Velasques to the mat! Velasques manages to get full guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Johnsson engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Johnsson tries to free his leg and advance position but Velasques is retaining full guard.
Johnsson content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Johnsson is looking to advance position but Velasques has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
Johnsson is desperately trying to improve his position but Velasques has a good base and remains in mount.

Velasques is trying to stick to Johnsson's back but Johnsson is turning into Velasques. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Velasques's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Johnsson.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Johnsson avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Johnsson trying to control the position from guard on top but Velasques is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Velasques has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Johnsson tries to free his leg and advance position but Velasques is retaining full guard.

Velasques working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Johnsson doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Johnsson manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Velasques is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Velasques doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Velasques throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Velasques is pulling down on Johnsson's head. It's preventing any offense from Johnsson, at least for the moment.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Johnsson's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Johnsson swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Velasques throws a right and a left that both miss.
Johnsson fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Velasques on the side of the head.
Velasques avoids the body shot from Johnsson.

and Velasques counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Johnsson's guard now.
Johnsson lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Velasques!

Johnsson connects with a couple of good shots from mount.

Velasques is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Velasques keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Johnsson takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Velasques is desperately trying to improve his position but Johnsson has a good base and remains in mount.

That's time! Velasques's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Velasques drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Johnsson tries to bench press Velasques off him but Velasques keeps the position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Johnsson can do anything to dispel that myth.
Velasques tries to advance to mount but Johnsson denies him.

Velasques decides to take the fight back to the feet.

enabling Velasques to counter with a crisp jab.


It looks like Dean Johnsson has been cut.
Velasques throws a series of punches but Johnsson moves out of range.
Johnsson thows a body shot but no joy.

Velasques closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Johnsson quickly recovers to half guard.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Johnsson is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Velasques rather than just go for the knockout.

Johnsson looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

and Johnsson counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Velasques thinking.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Cain Velasques. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Johnsson gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Velasques to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Velasques drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Velasques jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Velasques decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Velasques tries for a takedown but Johnsson sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Dean Johnsson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Johnsson has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
