PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Donald Duck (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cain Velasquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 9 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Donald Duck!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 11 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Cain Velasquez!
The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Ivan Kurochkin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Duck fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Velasquez.
Duck tries to score with a low kick but Velasquez moves his leg out of the way.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Velasquez checks a leg kick.
Some bone on bone action there as Velasquez checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.

Velasquez darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Duck tries to kick Velasquez off but Velasquez keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Velasquez seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Duck does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Velasquez landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Velasquez is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Velasquez tries to pass to full mount but Duck defends it.
Velasquez thows a huge punch but Duck dodges it nicely.
Velasquez is looking to advance position but Duck won't allow it.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Velasquez postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Duck is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Velasquez slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
You can see the frustration on Duck's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Duck tries to bench press Velasquez off him but Velasquez keeps the position.
Duck gets back to half guard.
Duck gets back to full guard.

Velasquez is looking to advance position but Duck has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Velasquez can do anything to dispel that myth.
Duck looking to control but Velasquez is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Velasquez defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Duck.
Duck wants to control the pace but Velasquez is squirming around nicely.
Duck is looking to stand but Duck has his arms wrapped tightly around him, looking to prevent the damage.
Duck throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Velasquez is working to get back to half guard.
Duck wants to get back to his feet but Velasquez is holding on tight.
Duck trying to control but he's not successful this time.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Duck is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Velasquez is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Duck wants to stand but Velasquez is holding on to him, trying to stop him posturing up.
Velasquez is trying to escape the mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Velasquez tries to control the position but Duck now has his back.
The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Duck's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.
Duck is really struggling to control Velasquez but he's trying to hold on to the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Velasquez is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Donald Duck will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Duck fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Velasquez checks it well.
Duck walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Velasquez checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
A clash of legs there as Velasquez blocks the low kick.
Duck throws a solid leg kick but Velasquez takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Duck.

Velasquez throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Duck was covering up waiting for the punch and Velasquez finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Duck manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Velasquez manages to get himself to full guard.
Duck stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Velasquez swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Duck is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Velasquez keeping moving, preventing Duck from controlling successfully.
Duck trying to stand up but can't free himself from Velasquez's guard.
Velasquez looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Duck wants to stand but Velasquez is controlling his posture from full guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Donald Duck.
Duck throws a chopping leg kick but Velasquez manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Duck does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Velasquez keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.

Velasquez scores with a takedown into Duck's guard.
Velasquez is working Duck over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Duck wants to get back to his feet but Velasquez is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Velasquez stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Duck swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Duck bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Velasquez's guard.
Duck trying to control the position from guard on top but Velasquez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Velasquez wants to stand and escape but Duck is having none of it.
Duck pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Velasquez is keeping the position for now.
Velasquez is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Velasquez is looking to advance position but Duck won't allow it.
Duck moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Velasquez keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Duck's head.

Duck lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Velasquez!
Duck can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Velasquez is looking to escape.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Duck is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Velasquez tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Duck is looking to slow Velasquez down with leg kicks.
Duck fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Velasquez chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Duck can pounce on him.
Good leg kick by Duck there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Donald Duck seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Duck throws a leg kick but Velasquez checks it.
Duck throws a front kick aimed at Velasquez's knee but Velasquez avoids it well.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Duck.

Velasquez on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Duck. Duck obviously looking to wear him down.
Velasquez takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Duck not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Duck looking to hit a scissor sweep but Velasquez is one step ahead there.
Velasquez wants to pass the guard but Duck is keeping the position.
Velasquez with a flurry of punches that miss.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Duck is on top in guard.

Duck has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Velasquez is proving hard to escape from.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Duck drops back looking for a leg! Velasquez is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Velasquez manages to kick Duck off! Duck jumps back into Velasquez's guard.
Duck wanted to stand there but Velasquez had control of the position.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Velasquez keeping moving, preventing Duck from controlling successfully.
Velasquez thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Velasquez is looking for a triangle but Duck pushes his legs off easily.

And that's the end of the fight!
Donald Duck showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Duck has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
