Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Zygi Lofs!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Pepper James!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Tiny Johnson and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
James keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Lofs closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. James quickly recovers to half guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Lofs is working for a kimura but James is defending it quite comfortably.
James lands one or two decent shots to the body here. Although from his own half guard, he's not going to be causing too much damage.
James trying to control from the bottom.
Lofs prevents James from standing back up.

Lofs is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. James doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Lofs.
Lofs is keen to just control but James is a slippery customer.

Lofs performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
James is trying to maintain the position but Lofs is very close to passing his half guard.
James is trying to get back to full guard.

Lofs decides to return to a standing position.

James has managed to clinch.
James is trying to drag Lofs to the mat but Lofs just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
James gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Lofs.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
James throws an elbow but it misses.

James escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
James looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Lofs is fending him off so far but James persists. Nope, Lofs circles away and we're back to standing.
Lofs changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. James tries to avoid it but Lofs manages to keep hold of a leg and drag James to the ground. James escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Zygi Lofs. That's going to take a lot out of him.
James looks to clinch

and Lofs counters with a single leg into guard. James didn't expect that.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
James wants to get back to his feet but Lofs is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
James is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
James tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Lofs is working James over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Lofs won't allow James to get back to his feet.
Lofs preventing the sweep.
Lofs wants to control from the top but James keeps moving.
Lofs missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

James pushes Lofs off and gets back to his feet.
James looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
James looks gassed!

Lofs looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Lofs is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Lofs is looking for a kimura but James is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Lofs to get the leverage.

Lofs is working for a kimura here but James manages to reverse the position and he's now in Lofs's guard.
James postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Lofs utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
James is looking to advance position but Lofs has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
James really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

James is flailing around, obviously not happy about being mounted. Lofs locks hold of one of his arms and spins for an armbar. He's got it! James is forced to tap!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Zygi Lofs!
