The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Herzog tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Veron swivels and escapes.
Herzog tries to clinch up.
Herzog really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Veron misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Herzog looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Viktor Herzog seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Veron explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.

Veron is pushing Herzog up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

With the fighters up against the cage, Veron throws an elbow but misses.
Veron misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Veron tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Herzog is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Veron is defending well.
Herzog dodges an elbow strike from Veron.
Veron lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.

Veron cracks Herzog with a nice body shot.

Herzog drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Herzog postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Veron is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Herzog, into his guard.
Veron's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Veron controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Veron works a leg free and moves into half guard.

Veron postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Herzog to stand up.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Herzog stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Veron.

and Veron counters with a big head kick but Herzog shrugs it off.
Veron feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Herzog's calf.
Veron tries to bum rush Herzog with a series of wild strikes but Herzog uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Herzog closes the distance looking to clinch
and Veron finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Herzog shoots in for a takedown but Veron shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Veron lands with a right that hurts Herzog. Herzog looks to clinch but Veron throws a short knee that drops Herzog. This one is all over!
