PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Anderson Smilvia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Logan Postle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Postle has chosen Take It Outside as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Anderson Smilvia!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Logan Postle!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Roger Salmon and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Postle throws a series of punches but Smilvia moves out of range.

Postle closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Smilvia did well to prevent Postle getting side control.
Postle slips a nice elbow through Smilvia's hands, connecting with Smilvia's forehead.

Smilvia is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Postle pulls his head out easily.

Smilvia is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Postle is pressing down on Smilvia's thigh, looking to free his foot. Smilvia is holding on for now.
Postle should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Postle thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Smilvia is looking to get back to is feet but Postle passes into side control.
Smilvia takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Smilvia throwing some weak shots from the bottom that do no damage.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Smilvia manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Smilvia wants to work for an arm triangle but Postle is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Smilvia tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Smilvia trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

Postle is pulling down on Smilvia's head to control his posture.

Postle can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Smilvia is looking to escape.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Smilvia is working to get back to half guard.

BOOM! Postle connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Postle tries to control but Smilvia wriggling away.

Postle looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Postle is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Smilvia has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Postle won't let Smilvia get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Smilvia is trying to escape the mount.

Postle with shots to the head and body - Smilvia looks very uncomfortable down there.
Smilvia is flailing around like a fish out of water, trying to land strikes.
Smilvia is trying desperately to improve position.
Smilvia wants to hold on but Postle pushes him away.
Smilvia keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Postle lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Smilvia regains half guard.
Smilvia manages to get to full guard.
Smilvia is breathing heavily.
Smilvia looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Postle must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Postle sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Smilvia's guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Nice strikes from Postle there.
Postle wants to lay and pray for a moment but Smilvia keeps working.

Postle postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Smilvia to stand up.
Smilvia throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Postle's waist but Postle gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Smilvia off to one side.
Postle will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Smilvia uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Postle.
Postle swings and misses with a hook to the body.
No joy there for Postle, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

and Postle holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Smilvia is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Postle pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Smilvia is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Postle is defending well for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Logan Postle dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Postle gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Smilvia tries to land knees in the clinch but Postle avoids the damage to the body.
Postle tries to pull guard but Smilvia won't allow it.
Postle is looking to break free of the clinch but Smilvia has double underhooks.

Postle pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Postle shoots in but no luck this time.
Some wild striking there from Postle.
Postle comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Postle looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Smilvia tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Postle misses with a few strikes there.
Smilvia moves in looking to clinch but Postle pushes him off.
Postle is breathing heavily.
The fight stays on the outside here - Smilvia looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Smilvia shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Postle as he jumps to the side.

Postle rushes Smilvia and presses him up against the cage.

Smilvia goes for a takedown in the clinch but Postle prevents it.
Postle tries to pull guard but Smilvia won't allow it.
Anderson Smilvia has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Logan Postle.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Smilvia is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Postle wants to control from the top but Smilvia keeps moving.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Smilvia has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Postle doesn't defend quickly enough and Smilvia has managed to lock this one up! Can Postle escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Smilvia on a fantastic submission victory.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:44 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Anderson Smilvia!
An out of breath Anderson Smilvia thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
