Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 21 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Frank Mir!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Isaac MPumbu!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Stewart Dunkirk and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mir looking to score a takedown here. MPumbu is defending well but Mir drives through and ends up in MPumbu's guard.
MPumbu has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
MPumbu wants to stand but Mir is controlling the position.
Mir landing some decent shots from guard.
Mir looking to sit in guard and control but MPumbu gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
MPumbu wants to control from the top but Mir keeps moving.

Mir looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Mir keeping full guard, as MPumbu tries to pass.
Mir throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
MPumbu engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Isaac MPumbu has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Mir throws a right hand that MPumbu ducks under and follows up with a left that MPumbu also avoids with ease.
MPumbu tries to clinch but Mir is having none of it.

MPumbu takes the fight into the clinch.
MPumbu lands with a light punch inside.
MPumbu on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Mir lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.
Mir doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Mir misses with a knee to the head.
MPumbu prevents Mir from breaking the clinch.

Mir's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Mir walks into a straight right hand from MPumbu.
Frank Mir seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Mir is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by MPumbu.
Mir fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
MPumbu tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Mir manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Mir fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging MPumbu to the ground. Mir is now in MPumbu's guard.
Mir wants to control from the top but MPumbu keeps moving.
Mir postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
MPumbu seems keen to control Mir's posture.
Mir wants to stand but MPumbu is controlling his posture from full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
MPumbu wants to get back to his feet but Mir is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

We're going to have a standup here because Frank Mir wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
MPumbu throws a jab but it's blocked by Mir.
MPumbu tries to clinch up.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Mir clinches up against the cage.
MPumbu struggles to land a body shot inside as Mir controls his hands.

Mir breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Mir drives through and clinches with MPumbu against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Frank Mir dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


MPumbu tries to close the distance and clinch but Mir swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Mir swats away the attempt to clinch by MPumbu.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Mir.
MPumbu takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.

and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Mir misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

and Mir counters with a nice double leg into guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as MPumbu holds on and takes a little breather.
MPumbu is breathing heavily.
MPumbu utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

That's one minute gone in the round.
MPumbu wants to stand up but Mir is controlling him.
Mir trying to control but MPumbu is working from the bottom.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Mir rushes MPumbu and presses him up against the cage.
MPumbu pressing his opponent against the cage.

Mir manages to break the clinch.
MPumbu throws a lazy uppercut

and Mir counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for MPumbu!

Mir thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
MPumbu is in all sorts of trouble here.
Mir looking to control but MPumbu is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Mir is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because MPumbu is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

It looks like Isaac MPumbu has been cut.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mir wants to control the pace but MPumbu is squirming around nicely.
Mir controlling the pace for now.
MPumbu wants to control but Mir is having none of it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Mir with some aggressive grappling here, looking for the finish.

MPumbu is squirming around, avoiding Mir's attempts to control the action.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Frank Mir dominated that second round.
The cut man is working on Isaac MPumbu's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


MPumbu waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Mir.
MPumbu fails with an attempt to clinch.
MPumbu stuffs the takedown.
Mir shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts MPumbu as he jumps to the side.

Mir gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Mir escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Mir shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has MPumbu pinned against the cage. MPumbu gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Frank Mir. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Mir takes the fight into the clinch.
MPumbu is pressed up against the cage. Mir has hold of a leg and is looking to drag MPumbu down to the mat. MPumbu avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Some wild striking there from Mir.
Mir thows a body kick. MPumbu tries to catch it but that hurt him.
Mir tries to move into range but MPumbu moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Mir misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Mir clinches up with MPumbu and pushes him back against the cage.
MPumbu wants to stall.
MPumbu seems frustrated at his inability to get double underhooks.
MPumbu lands a left hand.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Mir jumps guard but MPumbu turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

MPumbu looks to throw an elbow but misses.
MPumbu using the Thai clinch to land knees to the body.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Mir is trying to pull guard but MPumbu has him pressed against the cage.

Mir is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. MPumbu can't fight it off and eventually Mir manages to take the fight to the floor. MPumbu looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

MPumbu is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Mir looking to sit in guard and control but MPumbu gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

MPumbu seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Isaac MPumbu has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

OK we're going to have a standup here. Isaac MPumbu hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Mir looks for a takedown but MPumbu sprawls well.
MPumbu keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
MPumbu looks to throw the jab but Mir is out of range.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Frank Mir is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Mir shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. MPumbu defends it nicely.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Isaac MPumbu.
Well Mir has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A very excited looking Frank Mir rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
