Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
13 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Barack Bush!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ben Russel!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Seu Braga and Mauricio Rocha.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bush fails with the takedown
and Russel counters with a shoot takedown. Bush fights it but they end up in guard.
Russel works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Bush tries to get to full guard but Russel has control of the leg.
Russel working the head and body with strikes.
Russel thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Russel not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Russel is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Russel has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Russel thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Bush's head.
Russel looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Bush really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Russel looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Bush with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Russel uses his free foot to push down on Bush's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Bush.
Russel working away from the top, dropping strikes.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Russel is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Bush is rocked!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Russel loads up on a couple of big shots to the head that have Bush scrambling to escape. He can't get free though and several more unanswered shots from Russel land to the head. The referee has no choice but to stop the fight. Russel stands and salutes the crowd.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:30 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ben Russel!
