Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ben Dobson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Derrick Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Derrick Jones is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ben Dobson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Derrick Jones!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Russell Pearce and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones misses with a looping left.
Jones connects with a body shot.
Dobson moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Jones throws an off balance right hand
enabling Dobson to counter with a crisp jab.
A jab from Dobson does it's job there.


It looks like Derrick Jones has been cut.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Dobson's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Jones connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Dobson scrambles back to his feet.
Dobson feints a jab promting Jones to slip. Dobson then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Jones slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Jones throws a body punch but Dobson moves out of range.
Jones on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Jones uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Dobson.
Jones throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Dobson stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
A looping hook to the body misses from Jones. Dobson does a little dance to reset his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Jones closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Jones lands in his opponent's guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Jones stands up over Dobson, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Dobson wants to sweep but no luck.

Dobson manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Dobson steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Jones.
Dobson tries to clinch up but Jones circles away and keeps his distance.
Dobson ducks under a wild hook from Jones.
Dobson uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Jones.
Dobson throws a body punch but Jones moves out of range.
Jones lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Dobson at a distance.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Jones shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Jones wants to pass the guard but Dobson is defending well.

Dobson manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Jones swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Jones will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Dobson takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Dobson throws a shot from downtown. Jones moves away and avoids it.
Jones takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Dobson lands with a good body shot.
Jones swings and misses with a hook to the body.

Nice sprawl there from Dobson as Jones shoots in.
Jones swings for the body but Dobson moves out of range.
Dobson throws a shot from downtown. Jones moves away and avoids it.
Dobson steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Jones.

Jones scores with a takedown into Dobson's guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Jones accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Dobson pulls Jones in close to his closed guard and prevents Jones from doing any damage or advancing position.
Jones stands and throws Dobson's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Dobson can't do much from the bottom here.

Dobson is looking for a sweep.
Jones throws an elbow but Dobson slips to the side and avoids it well.

Jones is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Dobson has escaped the position, nice work there.
Jones in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Jones throws an elbow but Dobson slips to the side and avoids it well.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Dobson manages to get back to half guard.
Dobson controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Dobson is trying to get back to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Derrick Jones will probably get the nod.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Dobson throws a lazy right hand but Jones sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Dobson stuns Jones with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Jones throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Dobson's waist but Dobson gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Jones off to one side.

Jones is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
A decent looking cross lands there for Dobson.

Jones shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Jones showed some decent athleticism there.
Dobson wants to control but Jones is keeping busy and won't allow it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jones not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Jones thows a huge punch but Dobson dodges it nicely.

Dobson moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Dobson manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Jones manages to get himself to full guard.

Jones is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Jones looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Jones has an active guard here but Dobson has managed to pass into half guard.
Dobson is looking to advance position but Jones won't allow it.
Jones is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Dobson moves nicely into side control.
The strikes coming from Dobson are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Dobson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Jones keeps working.
Jones tries to bench press Dobson off him but Dobson keeps the position.
Dobson postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Dobson wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Jones, who protects the arm well.

Dobson goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Jones rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Dobson's guard! Nice work there by Jones!

Dobson wants to stand up but Jones is controlling him.
Dobson is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Jones is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Dobson's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Dobson's back!
Dobson looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Dobson rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.

Jones is trying to work for a kimura but Dobson is defending well.

and Dobson counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Jones thinking.

Dobson throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Jones on the side of the head.

Jones takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
