Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Barry Schmelly!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Steve Dowal!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Paul Gruel and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Schmelly throws a hook but Dowal blocks it.
Dowal with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Schmelly to score with a decent uppercut.
Schmelly connects with a crisp jab.
Dowal tries to clinch but Schmelly is having none of it.
Dowal goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.

Dowal drives through with a takedown into Schmelly's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Schmelly is on top in guard.

Schmelly thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Schmelly passes into half guard.
Schmelly is trying to control the action in half guard but Dowal is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Schmelly looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Schmelly wants to lay and pray for a moment but Dowal keeps working.

Schmelly is pressing down on Dowal's thigh, looking to free his foot. Dowal is holding on for now.

Schmelly is working for a kimura but Dowal is defending it quite comfortably.

Schmelly is looking for a kimura but Dowal is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Schmelly to get the leverage.

Schmelly wants to work for an arm triangle but Dowal is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Schmelly is taking a breather. Dowal says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Schmelly wants to take a breather but Dowal is having none of it.

Schmelly has isolated one of Dowal's arms. Dowal looking to fight him off but Schmelly twists into an armbar. It's tight... Will he tap?? YES, he's tapped! This one is all over!
