The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gracie throws a sloppy head kick
and McDonald counters with a nice kick to the body.
Gracie throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around McDonald's waist but McDonald gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Gracie off to one side.
Gracie shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. McDonald defends it nicely.

Bruce Gracie seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and McDonald decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Gracie's guard.

McDonald is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Gracie defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
McDonald throws a series of strikes and Gracie wriggles onto his back, so he's now mounted. He's in real trouble here.
McDonald postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Gracie looks a forlorn figure.
Gracie wants to control but McDonald is having none of it.

McDonald feints and then cracks Gracie's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Gracie down.
