PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kimbo Assis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Leroy Rose (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Assis comes to the cage accompanied by Falling Slowly. Rose has chosen Limp Bizkit - Break Stuff as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 15 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Kimbo Assis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Leroy Rose!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Shigeki Sano and Tatsuya Matsuyama.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Assis tries to clinch there but Rose circles away.

Assis rushes Rose and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Rose pulls guard successfully.
Assis pushing down on Rose's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Assis trying to mount his opponent but Rose defends it.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Assis is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Rose is just riding it out for now. Assis eventually gives up the hold.
Rose keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Assis wants to free his trapped foot but Rose is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Rose is looking to escape.

Assis missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

Assis is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Rose looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Assis looks for a takedown but Rose sprawls well.
Rose fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Rose swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Assis.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Rose is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.

Assis tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Assis is trying to get back to full guard.
Rose passes the guard and advances to mount!
Assis flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.

Rose lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Assis is desperately trying to improve his position but Rose has a good base and remains in mount.
Assis takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Rose lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

Assis defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Rose.
Assis tries to reverse the position but Rose maintains control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Rose cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Assis has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Assis is squirming around, avoiding Rose's attempts to control the action.

Assis tries to lock up and control but Rose gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Rose postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Assis looks a forlorn figure.

Rose has control of Assis's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Assis regains control of the situation pretty easily.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Leroy Rose dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Assis gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Rose pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Assis tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Rose manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Assis takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.

Rose attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Rose scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Rose digs a good hook to Assis's body.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Rose paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Rose lands a two punch combo.
Rose lands a jab to the head.
Assis takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

Rose changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Assis looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Assis takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Assis is looking to regain half guard here but Rose keeps moving and retains side control.
Assis is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Rose is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
Rose content just to control the position here.
Leroy Rose has got the better of the ground game so far.

Rose postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Assis looks a forlorn figure.

Assis is bucking up trying to escape but Rose cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Rose lands a heavy elbow.


Assis is rocked!
The referee warns Assis that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Oh Assis is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Rose drops a big elbow. That's hurt Assis! More shots from Rose and the ref steps in! The fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:39 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Leroy Rose!
In his post fight interview, Leroy Rose started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
