PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ken Sharp (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Roberval Santos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sharp's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Eye of The Tiger. Roberval Santos will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ken Sharp!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Roberval Santos!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sharp with a poor takedown
and Santos counters with a head kick.

Santos closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Santos looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Santos has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Sharp is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Santos stops a takedown attempt from Sharp.
Santos tries to break free but Sharp pushes him back against the cage.
Santos is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Sharp pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Santos tries to pull guard but Sharp forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Ken Sharp has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Roberval Santos.
Sharp gets underhooks to prevent Santos's takedown attempt.

Sharp gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Santos regains guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Sharp trying to control the position from guard on top but Santos is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sharp pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Santos is keeping the position for now.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sharp prevents Santos from getting back to his feet.
Sharp forces his way into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Santos is not content to let Sharp control the position.

Sharp is working for a submission of some sort.
Sharp trying to control the pace.

Sharp is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Santos defends it well.
Sharp will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Sharp stops Santos from getting back to his feet.

Sharp stands up and beckons Santos to join him on the feet.
Santos throws a series of punches but Sharp avoids them all with ease.
Sharp throws a nice head kick!
Ken Sharp seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Santos misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Sharp fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Sharp closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Santos quickly recovers to half guard.
Santos is staying active underneath Sharp, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sharp prevents Santos from standing back up.
Sharp wants to pass to mount but Santos is defending the position.
Santos wants to get back to his feet.
Santos is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Santos looks gassed!

Sharp is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Santos sees it coming and defends easily.

Sharp is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Santos has managed to free his arm - good work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Santos is in trouble now - Sharp has advanced to mount!
Santos really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Sharp. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Sharp looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.

Sharp goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Santos is on top in guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Santos wanted to stand there but Sharp had control of the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Sharp is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Santos defends well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ken Sharp dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Santos throws a head kick but Sharp moves out of range.
Santos moves in looking to clinch but Sharp pushes him off.
Santos tries to close the distance and clinch but Sharp swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Sharp closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Santos quickly recovers to half guard.
Santos is trying to stand back up but Sharp is controlling him
Sharp passes the guard and advances to mount!
Santos squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
Santos should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Sharp scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Santos?
Santos really wants to buck Sharp off and get back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sharp looking to control and managing it successfully.

Santos is breathing heavily.

Sharp is working close to his opponent, looking to work a submission by the looks of things. Oh, he's managed to get a guillotine from mount as his opponent reached up! That looks tiiiiight! Will he tap? YES, he's tapped! Impressive submission by Sharp!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:46 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Ken Sharp!
