PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Papa Smurf (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sam Prado (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Smurf comes into the arena with Ante Up blaring out of the sound system. Sam Prado told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Papa Smurf!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sam Prado!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Gwen Towbar and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smurf cracks Prado with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Smurf thows a body shot but no joy.

Prado shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Prado scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Smurf trying to hold on to Prado's head to control him but Prado postures up.
Smurf avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Prado.
Prado is taking a breather. Smurf says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Prado throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Prado missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Smurf trying to control from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Smurf wants to improve his position but Prado is controlling well.

Smurf is not content to let Prado control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Smurf has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Prado is working away from the top position though.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Prado shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Smurf as he avoids it easily.
Prado should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
No luck for Prado with that takedown attempt.
A punch combination from Smurf misses.

Smurf looks to land a right hand but Prado moved out of range.
Sam Prado seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Prado gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Prado is trying to trip Smurf. He has hold of a leg but Smurf is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Prado persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Prado throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Prado is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Smurf has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Prado can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Smurf is trying to control the position but Prado postures up.
Prado is looking to work some ground and pound but Smurf has wrist control.

Prado is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Smurf is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Smurf looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Prado wants to control from the top but Smurf keeps moving.
Prado trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Smurf looking for a sweep. Not yet Smurf, not yet.
Prado pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Smurf is keeping the position for now.
Prado looks gassed!

We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Sam Prado was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Smurf looks to land a combination but Prado avoids it well.
Smurf connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Prado takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Smurf scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Prado doesn't seem bothered though.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Prado gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sam Prado dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Prado pushes Smurf up against the cage in a clinch.
Smurf is trying to force a seperation but Prado has the dominant position.

Prado gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Prado is pushing down on Smurf's leg trying to pass to half guard. Smurf is fighting to maintain full guard but Prado has managed to sneak the leg through.
Smurf keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Smurf is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Prado won't allow Smurf to get back to his feet.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Sam Prado has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Smurf comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Prado slips a jab and a cross from Smurf.
Smurf misses with an uppercut. Prado saw that one coming.
Prado defending well as Smurf loads up on a big left hand.
Prado takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

Smurf bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Prado's head backwards.
Nice cross by Smurf.
Smurf throws a shot from downtown. Prado moves away and avoids it.
Smurf lands a nice shot to the body.
Prado fails with a takedown attempt.

Prado scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Smurf wants to control but Prado is keeping busy.
Prado passes the guard and advances to mount!
Smurf is trying to stand up.
Smurf is looking to get to half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Smurf is working hard here to advance position.
Sam Prado has got the better of the ground game so far.
Prado putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Prado is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Smurf is surviving well by controlling Prado's body position as best he can.

Sam Prado showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Smurf scores with a nice head shot.
Smurf's jab looks to have found its range, popping Prado under the eye.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Prado closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Prado lands in his opponent's guard.
Prado wants to control from the top but Smurf keeps moving.

Smurf utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Prado won't allow Smurf to sweep him here.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Smurf is on top in guard.
Prado thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

Prado looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Prado takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Smurf trying to control the position from guard on top but Prado is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Smurf is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Prado is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Papa Smurf wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Prado fails with the takedown.
Papa Smurf has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Prado shoots in but no luck this time.
Smurf misses with a hook.

Prado bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Smurf tries to bench press Prado off him but Prado keeps the position.
Prado creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Smurf sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Smurf is looking for a sweep.
Smurf is trying to work for a sweep but Prado has mounted him!
Prado throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Smurf because Prado loaded up on that one.
Smurf is looking to get to half guard.
Prado landing shots from mount.
Smurf wants to hold on but Prado pushes him away.
Smurf tries to get back to half guard but can't.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Prado trying to control but Smurf is having none of it.
Sam Prado is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Smurf is trying to escape the mount.
Prado tries to control but Smurf wriggling away.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Prado cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Smurf can't escape the position.
Smurf tries to control Prado's body but Prado pushes him off. Smurf squirms to his side and now Prado has his back!
Smurf tries to escape the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Smurf is trying to stand back up.
Smurf rolls, trying to escape but Prado keeps control of the position.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Sam Prado.
I've got Prado winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
