PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Wounded Monkey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bernard Shamrock (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Shamrock is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Sepultura - Roots Bloody Roots. Wounded Monkey has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Wounded Monkey!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Bernard Shamrock!
The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Monkey throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
A low kick from Shamrock misses
and Monkey counters with a big head kick but Shamrock shrugs it off.
Monkey scoring well with a low kick there.
Shamrock attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Monkey misses with an attempted mid kick.
Monkey wants to clinch.
Monkey tries to clinch up
and Shamrock counters with a nice low kick that buckles Monkey's knee momentarily.
Monkey lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Monkey throws out a leg kick but Shamrock moves out of range and Monkey only half commits.
Monkey showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Shamrock.

Monkey walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Shamrock checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Monkey lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Shamrock just misses with a punch to the body.
Monkey has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.


It looks like Wounded Monkey has been cut.

Shamrock manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Monkey on his heels. He'll look to pass Monkey's guard now, I'm sure.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Shamrock wants to control from the top but Monkey keeps moving.

Monkey wriggles free and stands up.

Monkey misses with a low kick.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Shamrock tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Monkey is able to avoid easily.

Shamrock looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Well, if Shamrock is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Shamrock thows a huge punch but Monkey dodges it nicely.

Shamrock throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Shamrock trying to control the action but Monkey is working from the bottom.
Shamrock is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Monkey reverses the position - he's now on top in Shamrock's guard.

Shamrock has a closed guard, preventing Monkey from standing up.
Shamrock looking for a sweep. Not yet Shamrock, not yet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bernard Shamrock dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Wounded Monkey's cut.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Shamrock fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Monkey looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
A chopping leg kick lands by Monkey.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Shamrock checks a leg kick.
Monkey tries a head kick but it misses.
A nice inside leg kick there by Shamrock. That's going to slow Monkey down.
A clash of legs there as Shamrock blocks the low kick.
Shamrock throws a leg kick which misses Monkey's front leg but catches the back leg as Monkey tries to avoid it.

so Shamrock counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Monkey keeping moving, preventing Shamrock from controlling successfully.
Shamrock pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Monkey is keeping the position for now.

Shamrock prevents Monkey from getting back to his feet.
Monkey could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Monkey working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Shamrock.
Monkey is looking to stand up but Shamrock isn't so interested in that idea.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
A jab from Shamrock finds it's way through Monkey's defenses.

Monkey misses with a low kick as Shamrock jumps back.
Wounded Monkey seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

letting Shamrock counter with a right hand.
A nice inside leg kick there by Shamrock. That's going to slow Monkey down.
Shamrock throws a low kick but it's checked well by Monkey.
Good leg kick by Shamrock there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Shamrock misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Monkey on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Shamrock uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Monkey has time to react.
Shamrock throws a low kick but it's checked well by Monkey.

Shamrock looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Monkey takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

Shamrock feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Shamrock in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Shamrock wants to pass the guard but Monkey is keeping the position.
Shamrock is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Shamrock with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Shamrock won't allow Monkey to get back to his feet.
Shamrock is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.


Wounded Monkey's cut is getting worse.
Shamrock throws a big elbow that misses.
Shamrock controlling from the top position.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bernard Shamrock showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. And we move into the final round!


Shamrock lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Monkey at a distance.

Some bone on bone action there as Shamrock checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.

Shamrock throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Monkey takes a swing at Shamrock's ribcage but misses.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Monkey is looking to break free of the clinch but Shamrock has double underhooks.

Shamrock presses Monkey against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.

Shamrock forces his way into half guard.
Nice strikes from Shamrock there.
Shamrock looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

This has been an exciting period of action!

Shamrock throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Shamrock scores with a nice right hand.
Wounded Monkey has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Bernard Shamrock is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Shamrock shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Shamrock was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Monkey holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Shamrock tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Shamrock takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Jeez, Wounded Monkey's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Wounded Monkey's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:51 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Bernard Shamrock!
Jumping up and down and very excited, Bernard Shamrock waved his t-shirt featuring CEC Nutrition Q159 (*$75*)'s logo in front of the cameras.
