PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mark Mellendrez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and El Camino (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Camino has chosen Avicii - Levels in Reverse as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Mark Mellendrez has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mark Mellendrez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, El Camino!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Both fighters circling a little - Mellendrez finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.

Camino fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Mellendrez, pushing him back against the cage.
Mellendrez creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.
Mellendrez tries to pull guard but Camino holds him up against the cage and eventually Mellendrez drops back down to his feet.
Mellendrez looking to stall.
Camino lands a knee to the body.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Mellendrez is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Camino is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Mellendrez is defending well for now.

Mellendrez gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Camino to score an easy takedown into full guard.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Mellendrez has gone for a leg lock! Camino slips out almost immediately though and dives into Mellendrez's guard.

so Camino counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Camino won't allow Mellendrez to sweep him here.
Mellendrez is looking to stand up but Camino isn't so interested in that idea.

The ref stands the fighters back up. El Camino was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Mellendrez is trying to pull guard but Camino has him pressed against the cage.
Camino crunches a lovely knee into Mellendrez's ribcage.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Mellendrez just misses with a elbow thrown towards Camino's brow.
Camino with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.
Mellendrez tries for a takedown but Camino manages to get underhooks.

Mellendrez pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Mellendrez wants to clinch.
Mark Mellendrez is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Camino decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Mellendrez shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Camino sprawls well. Camino wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Mellendrez gets slowly back to his feet.

El Camino showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

El Camino has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Mellendrez throws a head kick that misses.

Camino fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Mellendrez to the ground. Camino is now in Mellendrez's guard.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Mellendrez wants to stand and escape but Camino is having none of it.

We're going to have a standup here because Mark Mellendrez wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Mellendrez enables Camino to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Mellendrez manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Camino postures up.

Mark Mellendrez has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Mellendrez throws a sloppy head kick and Camino moves out of range easily.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to El Camino.
I've got Camino winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
