PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Douglas Quaid (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hillman Schaub (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Quaid comes to the cage accompanied by Total Recall. Hillman Schaub will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Douglas Quaid!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Hillman Schaub!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Anni Minnemäki and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Quaid throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Schaub shoots in but Quaid avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Schaub misses with a head kick.
Schaub fails with the takedown
and Quaid counters with a straight right hand.

Quaid scores a takedown into full mount!
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Schaub is trying desperately to improve position.
Schaub regains half guard.
Schaub wants to control but Quaid is keeping busy and won't allow it.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Quaid is looking to advance position but Schaub won't allow it.
Quaid has decided to stand back up but his arm is trapped. Whilst he's worrying about his arm, Schaub works to full guard.

Quaid won't allow Schaub to sweep him here.

Quaid is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Schaub is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Schaub pulls Quaid in close to prevent any damage.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Douglas Quaid.
Schaub shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Quaid as he jumps to the side.
Douglas Quaid has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Hillman Schaub.

Schaub gets caught napping as Quaid dives in and scores a takedown. Schaub manages to retain guard.
Quaid looking to sit in guard and control but Schaub gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Schaub stops Quaid from standing up.
Schaub stands and throws Quaid's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Quaid is looking to regain half guard here but Schaub keeps moving and retains side control.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Quaid is working hard here to advance position.

Schaub thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Schaub looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Quaid with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Quaid tries to get to full guard but Schaub has control of the leg.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Schaub looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Schaub lands a nice short elbow.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Quaid has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Schaub is working away from the top position though.

A close round but Hillman Schaub will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Quaid lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Schaub throws a head kick but Quaid moves out of range.
Quaid takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Quaid.

Quaid forces Schaub back against the cage and clinches.
Quaid works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Quaid stalls.
The crowd are getting pretty annoyed with Quaid for his constant stalling in the clinch and are voicing their displeasure.
Schaub is breathing heavily.
Quaid digs a right hand underneath Schaub's ribcage. Schaub let out a lung full of air as it connected.

Schaub tries to circle away but Quaid has him pinned against the cage.
Quaid effectively controlling the action here.

Quaid tightens his grip and picks Schaub up, before dumping him to the ground. Schaub manages to land in guard.
Quaid throws a big elbow that misses.
Quaid stands up over Schaub, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Quaid trying to control but Schaub is working from the bottom.
Douglas Quaid overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Quaid stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Schaub swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Quaid has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Quaid keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Schaub's head.
Quaid throwing strikes from guard but Schaub blocks nicely.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Schaub has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Quaid keeping full guard, as Schaub tries to pass.
Quaid wants to sweep but no luck.
Schaub throws a big elbow that misses.
Schaub working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Quaid is trying to keep Schaub in close.
Schaub pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Quaid is keeping the position for now.
Schaub postures up in Quaid's guard and throws a big left but Quaid blocks it.

Quaid looking to hit a scissor sweep but Schaub is one step ahead there.
Quaid lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Schaub!
Quaid lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Quaid scoring with strikes but Schaub is staying in there.
Quaid can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Schaub is looking to escape.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Quaid lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Schaub hang on?
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Douglas Quaid dominated that second round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Schaub shoots and misses
and Quaid counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Schaub throws a head kick that half lands.
Quaid throws an overhand right that has Schaub reeling! Quaid follows up with more punches and Schaub is out cold! This one is all over!
