PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Olrax Recto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yuri Boyka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Yuri Boyka told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Olrax Recto!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Yuri Boyka!
The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Ren Mimura and Hirohito Nitta.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Boyka sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Recto lands with a slapping head kick.
A punch combination from Recto misses.
Recto moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Recto closes the distance and clinches up with Boyka, looking for a takedown. Recto pushes Boyka against the cage but Boyka circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Recto throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Recto tries to keep at a distance but Boyka has taken the fight into the clinch.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Boyka gets control of Recto's arms and successfully pulls guard. Boyka will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Boyka wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Recto has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Boyka manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Recto manages to get himself to full guard.
Recto wants to get back to his feet but Boyka is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Boyka is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Boyka stands up and waves to Recto to follow him.
Recto throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Boyka.

Recto gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Boyka to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Boyka slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Recto tries to buck Boyka off but Boyka is having none of it.

Boyka stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Recto darts in trying to clinch

and Boyka counters with a shoot takedown. Recto fights it but they end up in guard.
Recto knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Boyka on the ground.

Boyka stands up and waves to Recto to follow him.
Recto misses with a head kick.
Recto throws a sloppy head kick and Boyka moves out of range easily.
Recto shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Boyka sprawls well. Boyka wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Recto gets slowly back to his feet.
Recto tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Boyka was well out of range. Poor timing from Recto.

A jab from Recto finds it's way through Boyka's defenses.
Boyka has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Recto.
Boyka throws a right hand that Recto ducks under and follows up with a left that Recto also avoids with ease.
A punch combination from Recto misses.
Recto is looking to clinch.
Nice takedown defense from Recto. No joy for Boyka on that attempt.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Recto, right into the meat.
Recto shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Boyka but Boyka pushes him off and we're back to square one.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Olrax Recto. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Recto throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Boyka's waist but Boyka gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Recto off to one side.
Recto is breathing heavily.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Recto enables Boyka to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Recto manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Boyka tries to free his leg and advance position but Recto is retaining full guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Boyka passes Recto's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Boyka performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Boyka's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Yuri Boyka will probably get the nod.

A frustrated look appears on Recto's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Boyka gets control of Recto's arms and successfully pulls guard. Boyka will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Boyka strikes from his own guard.
Recto with a flurry of punches that miss.
Boyka lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Recto!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Recto is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Recto looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back!

Boyka is cranking Recto's head sideways - that looks painful. He's managed to get his other arm under the chin and this looks bad for Recto! He's tightened the choke and Recto is tapping out!
