PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Ryo Kuma (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kunimitsu Tezuka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kuma comes into the arena with Zetsubou Billy blaring out of the sound system. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ryo Kuma!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kunimitsu Tezuka!
The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Ren Mimura and Shigeki Sano.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tezuka is trying hard to land a takedown here. Kuma sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Kuma slaps away a takedown attempt from Tezuka, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Kuma is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Tezuka has closed the distance and engaged Kuma in a clinch.

Tezuka gets control of Kuma's arms and successfully pulls guard. Tezuka will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Kuma wants to get up but he can't break Tezuka's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Tezuka scrambles and gets back to his feet.

Kuma stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Kuma wants it to stay on the feet.

Kuma lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.

Tezuka is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Kuma has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Tezuka escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Tezuka tries to clinch but Kuma moves out of range.
Kuma misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Kuma throws a sloppy head kick and Tezuka moves out of range easily.

Kuma on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
The fight stays on the outside here - Kuma looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

and Tezuka counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Tezuka.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Kuma looking to throw knees to the head but Tezuka is blocking nicely.
Kuma wants to break free but Tezuka has control.

Tezuka's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Kuma throws a series of punches but Tezuka moves out of range.

Kuma throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Tezuka stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Kuma misses with a body kick.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Tezuka.
Kuma delivers a nice body kick.
Tezuka looks gassed!
Tezuka avoids a punch combination nicely.
Tezuka is trying hard to land a takedown here. Kuma sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Tezuka has a closed guard, preventing Kuma from standing up.
Kuma might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Kuma gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Tezuka tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Tezuka shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Kuma pinned against the cage. Kuma gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Kuma throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Kuma tries to clinch up but Tezuka circles away and keeps his distance.
Kuma is looking to land body kicks.
Kuma lands a head kick. Tezuka smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ryo Kuma dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Tezuka looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Tezuka shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Kuma but Kuma pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Tezuka ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Kuma moves away.

Kuma wants to clinch up but Tezuka keeps it at a distance.
Tezuka takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Tezuka pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Tezuka throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Kuma's head.
A left and a right from Kuma both land. Nice combination.
Kuma lands a nice looking kick to the body. Tezuka takes a step back to recover.
A bone on bone clash there as Kuma blocks the leg kick.

Kuma slaps away a takedown attempt from Tezuka, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Both fighters circling a little - Kuma finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.

Tezuka throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Kuma misses with the combination.
Tezuka avoids the head kick by Kuma.
An inside leg kick lands from Kuma.
Sloppy strikes from Kuma. Those never looked like landing.

Kuma tries to bum rush Tezuka with a series of wild strikes but Tezuka uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Tezuka shoots in but Kuma avoids the takedown attempt easily.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Kuma thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Tezuka if he has to take too many more of those.

Kuma pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Tezuka has a takedown stuffed.
Kuma throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Kuma fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Tezuka.
Tezuka looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Kuma is fending him off so far but Tezuka persists. Nope, Kuma circles away and we're back to standing.

Tezuka shoots in but Kuma avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Kuma has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Tezuka.
Ryo Kuma is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Kuma throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.
Tezuka shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Kuma but Kuma pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Kuma tries to close the distance and clinch up but Tezuka swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Kuma fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Tezuka manages to avoid it.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Kuma rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Tezuka moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Tezuka throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Tezuka clinches up with Kuma and pushes him back against the cage.

Kuma throws an elbow that misses. Tezuka uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Kuma's guard. Nice move by Tezuka!

Tezuka jumps guard but Kuma stands there with Tezuka around his waist. Tezuka gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

This has been an exciting period of action!

Tezuka breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Tezuka fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Kuma lands with a nice body punch.
Tezuka chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Kuma can pounce on him.
A slapping body kick lands there for Kuma.

Tezuka closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Kuma can't break the clinch.

A frustrated look appears on Kuma's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Tezuka pulls Kuma into guard.
Tezuka manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Kuma manages to get himself to full guard.
Tezuka must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Kuma wants to get back to his feet but Tezuka is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Tezuka throws an elbow that misses. Kuma uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Tezuka's guard. Nice move by Kuma!

Tezuka is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Kuma is aware though and is defending well.
Ryo Kuma is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Ryo Kuma.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Kuma, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
