PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rico Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Savage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gracie comes to the cage accompanied by Pokój z widokiem na wojnę - Droga Wojownika. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Rico Gracie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Michael Savage!
The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Konstantin Menshow and Ivan Kurochkin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Savage moves into range and clinches up with Gracie.
Gracie changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Savage fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Gracie tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Savage swivels and escapes.

Savage clinches up with Gracie and pushes him back against the cage.
Savage prevents the takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rico Gracie. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Savage tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Savage lands a good knee to the midsection. Gracie won't want to take too many of those.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.

Savage ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Savage no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Savage drives through and clinches with Gracie against the cage.

Savage manages to break the clinch.
Savage fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Gracie.
Savage wants to clinch but Gracie slips to the side

and Gracie counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Savage!
Gracie is breathing heavily.

Savage is trying desperately to improve position.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Gracie looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.

Gracie jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Savage manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Savage tries to buck Gracie off but Gracie is having none of it.

Gracie tries for a kimura but Savage is defending well.
Gracie trying to control the action but Savage is working from the bottom.
Savage really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gracie. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

You can see the frustration on Savage's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Savage is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Gracie asserts his dominance and retains side control.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That was a close round but I would say that Rico Gracie will probably get the nod.
That's time! Gracie's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Savage connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.

Savage breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Gracie is trying hard to land a takedown here. Savage sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Gracie is really struggling to control Savage but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Savage connects with a looping right hand.
Savage lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Savage looks to land a combination. Gracie sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.

Savage rushes Gracie and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Savage struggles to land a body shot inside as Gracie controls his hands.
Savage is leaning against Gracie and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.

Savage is trying to trip Gracie. He has hold of a leg but Gracie is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Savage persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Gracie is trying to control the position but Savage postures up.
Savage postures up in Gracie's guard and throws a big left but Gracie blocks it.
Savage has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Gracie is proving hard to escape from.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Savage got a little sloppy there for a moment and Gracie has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Savage has managed to get both his arms back between Gracie's legs - danger averted.

Michael Savage showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Savage throws a right hand that Gracie ducks under and follows up with a left that Gracie also avoids with ease.
Gracie takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.

Gracie can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Savage is looking to escape.

Savage tries to reverse the position but Gracie maintains control.
Gracie wants to take his opponent's back but Savage doesn't allow it.

Gracie is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Savage can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
