PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jay Glazer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Skjelbred (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Skjelbred has chosen Bad To The Bone as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the bantamweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jay Glazer!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, John Skjelbred!
The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Fedor Mirinova and Aleksei Zolotukhin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Skjelbred looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Glazer swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Skjelbred.
Glazer takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Skjelbred throws a head kick that misses
and Glazer counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Skjelbred throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Skjelbred wants to clinch.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Glazer. Skjelbred shrugs it off though.
Glazer throws a poor cross that misses

and Skjelbred counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Skjelbred wants to get back to his feet.
Glazer is trying to stand back up but Skjelbred is controlling him
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Skjelbred is pressing down on Glazer's thigh, looking to free his foot. Glazer is holding on for now.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Skjelbred wants to lay and pray for a moment but Glazer keeps working.
Skjelbred missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Skjelbred is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.
Skjelbred pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Glazer is keeping the position for now.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Skjelbred trying to control the position from guard on top but Glazer is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

John Skjelbred has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Skjelbred shoots in for a double leg but Glazer sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Jay Glazer is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Glazer throws a body punch but Skjelbred moves out of range.
Skjelbred throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Glazer.
Glazer goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.


It looks like John Skjelbred has been cut.
Glazer misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Skjelbred counters with a left and a right that stings Glazer.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Glazer lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Glazer throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Glazer blocks a jab.

Skjelbred clinches.

Skjelbred escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Glazer keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Skjelbred uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Glazer.
Skjelbred moves in looking to clinch but Glazer pushes him off.

Skjelbred moves into the clinch.

Glazer breaks from the clinch.
Skjelbred looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Glazer uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Skjelbred has time to react.
Glazer really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Glazer comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Skjelbred walks into a straight right hand from Glazer.


Skjelbred is rocked!
and Glazer counters with a massive uppercut that badly hurts Skjelbred! He's just covering up as Glazer starts to tee off till the referee steps in and stops the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:45 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jay Glazer!
