PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Tug Speedman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eddie Spliff (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Tug Speedman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Eddie Spliff!
The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Patrick Alders and Paul Aken.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Spliff uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Speedman.
Speedman misses with a wild body shot.
Spliff drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Spliff uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Speedman.
The fighters circling - Speedman throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

Speedman gets caught napping as Spliff dives in and scores a takedown. Speedman manages to retain guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Spliff has gone for a leg lock! Speedman slips out almost immediately though and dives into Spliff's guard.
Speedman stands and throws Spliff's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Speedman controls the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Speedman stands up and beckons Spliff to his feet.
Speedman takes a swing at Spliff's ribcage but misses.
Spliff on the wrong end of a nice jab.

Speedman cracks Spliff with a big right hand that sends him crashing to the floor. Speedman has the opportunity to follow him to the ground but instead he's beckoning Spliff to stand back up!


Spliff is rocked!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Speedman misses the body punch

and Spliff counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Spliff is still in real trouble! Can Speedman finish him?

Spliff is looking for a kimura but Speedman is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Spliff to get the leverage.

Spliff is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Speedman has managed to free his arm - good work.
Spliff seems to have recovered his senses.

Spliff is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Speedman doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Spliff.

Spliff is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Spliff looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Speedman regains full guard. Nicely done.

Speedman wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Spliff is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Spliff drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Speedman dives on top into guard.

Speedman decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Good standup being displayed there by Speedman as he connects with a hook.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Speedman ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Speedman works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Speedman fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Spliff manages to avoid it.
Speedman misses with a hook.
Speedman misses with a jab, cross combination.
Spliff slips under a jab.
Speedman scores with a hook to the body. Spliff takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Speedman lands a body shot.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Speedman ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Spliff moves away.

Speedman lands a big uppercut and Spliff crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Spliff looks OK. Speedman waves Spliff back to his feet!
No luck for Spliff with that takedown attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tug Speedman dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Speedman tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Spliff was well out of range. Poor timing from Speedman.
Spliff uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Speedman.
Spliff ducks under a wild hook from Speedman.
Speedman throws a big shot that misses.
Speedman scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Spliff takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Speedman thows a body shot but no joy.
Speedman ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Spliff moves away.
Speedman throws an ugly left hook that misses

so Spliff counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Speedman seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Spliff is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Speedman is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Speedman has escaped and now he's on top!

Speedman avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Spliff looking for subs off his back but Speedman has passed one foot through into half guard.
Speedman content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Speedman is looking to advance position but Spliff won't allow it.

Spliff looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

Speedman postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Spliff to stand up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Speedman just misses with a punch to the body.
Speedman throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Speedman throws a body punch but Spliff moves out of range.
Speedman throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Speedman swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Spliff counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Spliff is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Speedman sees it coming and defends easily.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Spliff seems to be working for a kimura but Speedman defends the submission attempt.

Spliff is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Speedman has managed to free his arm - good work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Tug Speedman will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Speedman throws a hook but Spliff blocks it.
Speedman lands with a nice body punch.
Speedman lands a slapping body shot.
Speedman misses with a straight left.
Spliff takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Spliff ducks right into an uppercut from Speedman.
Speedman swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Speedman throws out a loose jab but Spliff uses good head movement to avoid it.
Speedman waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Spliff.

Speedman leaves Spliff with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Spliff shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Spliff was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Spliff jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Speedman manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Speedman is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Spliff's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Spliff is looking for a kimura but Speedman is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Spliff to get the leverage.

Spliff is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Speedman sees it coming and defends easily.
Speedman is controlling Spliff's trapped leg to prevent Spliff from advancing to side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Speedman tries to get to full guard but Spliff has control of the leg.

Spliff is working for a kimura but Speedman is defending it quite comfortably.

Spliff is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Spliff is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Speedman makes his way to full guard, as Spliff worked for a kimura.

Spliff has gone for a leg lock! Speedman slips out almost immediately though and dives into Spliff's guard.

Speedman wanted to stand there but Spliff had control of the position.
Speedman knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Spliff on the ground.
Eddie Spliff has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Tug Speedman is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Speedman lands a couple of elbows.

And that's the end of the fight!
Tug Speedman showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Speedman, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Tug Speedman spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
