Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Beat Down!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jake Mendes!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Trevor Gratis and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Down looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Nice uppercut lands for Mendes. That snapped Down's head back.

Mendes looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Mendes pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Down is keeping the position for now.
Down keeping moving, preventing Mendes from controlling successfully.
Mendes throwing strikes from guard but Down blocks nicely.

Mendes stands up and waves to Down to follow him.
Jake Mendes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Mendes fails with the takedown.

Down defending against the ground and pound.
Down is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Mendes asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Mendes has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Mendes shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Down sprawls well. Down wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Mendes gets slowly back to his feet.
Beat Down has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jake Mendes.
No joy there for Mendes, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Mendes drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Down is trying to get back to his feet.
Down is not content to let Mendes control the position.

Mendes decides to take the fight back to the feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jake Mendes dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


A punch combination from Down misses.
Down throws a series of punches but Mendes avoids them all with ease.
Mendes lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Down backs up against the cage.
Mendes has a takedown stuffed.
Down lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Mendes tries for a takedown but Down sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Down defending well as Mendes loads up on a big left hand.

Beat Down has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jake Mendes.
Down takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Down misses with an uppercut.
Beat Down is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Mendes slips under a jab from Down.
Mendes looks to land a left hand but Down moved out of range nicely.
Mendes tried to score with a low kick but Down checks it.

Mendes bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Mendes controls the position from side control.

Mendes works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Mendes throwing shots but missing, from side control.
Mendes tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mendes is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Down knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Down knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Mendes on the ground.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Down pushes Mendes away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Mendes gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mendes taking a breather here.
Down on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Down tries to get out of the position.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Jake Mendes has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Mendes fails with a takedown attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jake Mendes showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Down's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Mendes will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Down rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Mendes moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Mendes clinches.
Down blocks the elbow strike.
Mendes is working for takedown but Down is calmly controlling the position for now.
Mendes lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Down or not.
A shot in the inside from Mendes.

Mendes escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Mendes dives in and grabs Down's left leg, looking for a takedown. Down pushes down on Mendes's head and hops out.
Beat Down has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jake Mendes.
Mendes shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Down as he jumps to the side.
Mendes fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
A punch combination from Mendes misses.
Down thows a body shot but no joy.
Mendes with a lazy takedown attempt
and Down counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.


It looks like Jake Mendes has been cut.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Mendes dives in and scores a takedown into Down's guard.
Mendes takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Mendes stops Down from standing up.
Mendes is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Jake Mendes wasn't active enough on the ground.
Down scores with a shot to the body.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Mendes shoots for a takedown but Down saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Mendes tries to close the distance and clinch up but Down swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Mendes shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Down manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Down keeping moving, preventing Mendes from controlling successfully.
Beat Down has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Mendes drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Down manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Mendes has Down in his guard.

Down decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A combination from Down does no damage.
Mendes shoots in looking for a takedown. Down tries to sprawl out of it but Mendes keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Down manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Mendes fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Down to the ground. Mendes is now in Down's guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Mendes looking to sit in guard and control but Down gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jake Mendes comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Mendes has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
