PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Pierre Jalabert (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sean Mike (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Pierre Jalabert!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Sean Mike!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Don Winkell and .




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mike throws a wild body kick that Jalabert sees coming a mile off.
Jalabert throws a right and a left that both miss.
Jalabert tries to clinch but Mike moves away

and Mike counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Jalabert trying to control the position but instead, Mike has worked for underhooks and has pushed Jalabert into the cage.
Mike drops down looking for an ankle pick but Jalabert pulls his leg out and moves away.
Jalabert is looking to clinch.
Mike avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Jalabert fails with an attempt to clinch.
Mike closes this distance looking for a takedown but Jalabert circles away.

Jalabert moves into the clinch.

Mike's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Mike drives through with a takedown into guard.
Mike trying to control the position from guard on top but Jalabert is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Jalabert throws his legs up looking for a submission but Mike uses it to pass to side control.
Jalabert knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Mike on the ground.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mike takes a little break here. Jalabert wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Jalabert pushes Mike away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Mike gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Jalabert tries to improve position but can't.
Mike is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Jalabert is looking for a sweep.
Mike content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jalabert wants to get back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Mike tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Mike has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Jalabert is not content to let Mike control the position.
Jalabert is looking to regain half guard here but Mike keeps moving and retains side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mike taking a breather here.

Mike decides to stand back up. Mike steps back and let's Jalabert get back to his feet.
Pierre Jalabert seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Mike swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Mike misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Mike moves into the clinch.

Jalabert breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Jalabert misses with a series of wild punches.
Jalabert tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Mike manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Jalabert darts in and clinches Mike up against the cage.
Mike lands a left hand.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Jalabert has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Mike uses from the top position.

Mike gets to his feet - Jalabert follows without any prompting.
The fight stays on the outside here - Jalabert looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Jalabert fails in his attempt to clinch.

Jalabert clinches up with Mike and pushes him back against the cage.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Mike has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Jalabert avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Pierre Jalabert has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sean Mike.
Jalabert tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Jalabert pulls guard successfully.
Mike is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Jalabert is looking to stand back up but Mike counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Jalabert.
Jalabert on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Jalabert tries to get out of the position.
Jalabert is breathing heavily.
Well, if Mike is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sean Mike dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Jalabert lands a jab-cross combination.
Mike misses with an uppercut

and Jalabert moves into the clinch.
Mike is trying to stall.

Jalabert successfully pulls guard.
Mike slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Mike trying to control but Jalabert is working from the bottom.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Sean Mike wasn't active enough on the ground.
Mike moves in looking to clinch but Jalabert pushes him off.
Jalabert moves out of range of the body kick.

Jalabert closes the distance and clinches.

Mike escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Mike shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Jalabert as he avoids it easily.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Jalabert scores with an uppercut up the middle.

Jalabert pulls guard successfully.
Mike working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Jalabert's head.
Jalabert throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Jalabert doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Mike slips nicely into half guard, despite the strikes coming from Jalabert.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Jalabert is not content to let Mike control the position.
Sean Mike has got the better of the ground game so far.
Mike passes the guard and advances to mount!

Mike is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Jalabert can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Mike manages to capitalize on a mistake by Jalabert to take his back!

Mike is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Jalabert has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
Mike is breathing heavily.
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.

Mike avoiding Jalabert 's attempts to control his hands.

Mike is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Jalabert defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
Jalabert turns into Mike and is now in his guard.
Mike keeping full guard, as Jalabert tries to pass.

Jalabert wants to stand but Mike has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Mike has his foot on Jalabert's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Jalabert works his way back into a safe position though.
Mike controls Jalabert momentarily but Jalabert frees himself.

Mike is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Jalabert postures up in Mike's guard and throws a big left but Mike blocks it.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Mike holds on and takes a little breather.

Mike looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Sean Mike will probably get the nod - 10:9.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Jalabert tries to close the distance and clinch up but Mike swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Mike rushes Jalabert and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Mike is trying to pull guard but Jalabert has him pressed against the cage.

Jalabert breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Jalabert tries to clinch there but Mike circles away.
Mike looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Jalabert moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.


It looks like Sean Mike has been cut.

Jalabert takes the fight into the clinch.
Jalabert presses Mike against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.
Jalabert is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Mike is defending well for now.
Mike is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Jalabert is defending well.
Mike takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Jalabert breaks the clinch.
Jalabert throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.

Jalabert throws a sloppy head kick and Mike moves out of range easily.
Jalabert wants to clinch but Mike slips to the side

so Mike counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Jalabert is striking off his back. Mike thinks nothing of it though and passes easily into half guard.
Jalabert is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Jalabert is not content to let Mike control the position.

Mike is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Jalabert is trying to escape back to his feet but Mike uses the scramble to pass into side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Mike trying to control the position but Jalabert is working away.
Mike working the ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Mike remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Jalabert is looking to reverse the position.
Jalabert gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Jalabert bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jalabert tries to stand but Mike is controlling from the bottom.
Jalabert looking to sit in guard and control but Mike gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Mike passes Jalabert's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Jalabert wants to improve his position but Mike is controlling well.
Mike drops an elbow to the side of Jalabert's head.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Jalabert wants to get back to full guard.
Mike keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Let's hope that Mike has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Mike stands up out of the half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Jalabert forces Mike back against the cage and clinches.
Jalabert is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Mike to keep the fight standing.
Pierre Jalabert has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Sean Mike is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Jalabert has a couple of punches blocked by Mike.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Pierre Jalabert.
I think Mike has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
