Montros has chosen Going Under - Evanescence as his entrance music. James Hellwig could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Jason Montros's chin.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hellwig tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Montros manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Hellwig avoids a kick to the body.
Montros throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Hellwig.
Montros fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Hellwig is out of range.
Montros is looking to chop away at Hellwig's legs.
Hellwig doesn't manage to clinch there - Montros circles away.
Montros throws a nice inside leg kick.
Montros throws a body punch but Hellwig moves out of range.
The fight stays on the outside here - Hellwig looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Montros throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.

Hellwig takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.

Hellwig dives in and grabs Montros's left leg, looking for a takedown. Montros pushes down on Hellwig's head and hops out.
Hellwig will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Montros misses with a low kick as Hellwig jumps back.
Montros moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Montros looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Hellwig shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Montros pinned against the cage. Montros gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Hellwig shoots in looking for a takedown but Montros manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Hellwig's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Montros clobbers Hellwig with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
A looping hook to the body misses from Montros. Hellwig does a little dance to reset his feet.
Jason Montros seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hellwig takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Hellwig tries to clinch there but Montros circles away.
Montros does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

Hellwig pushes Montros up against the cage in a clinch.
This is turning into a torrid day at the office for Hellwig. He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery.

Montros works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
Montros looks to throw an elbow but misses.
Montros misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Hellwig.
Montros lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Hellwig backwards.

Oh Hellwig is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Montros breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Montros throws an overhand right that lands on Hellwig's shoulder, as Hellwig tries to avoid the shot.
Montros lands a nice leg kick that just misses Hellwig's sensitive parts.
Hellwig shoots in but no luck this time.
Hellwig seems to have got his legs back now.
Montros just misses with a punch to the body.
Hellwig chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Montros can pounce on him.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Montros tries to clinch up but Hellwig circles away and keeps his distance.

Montros throws a nice looking combination but Hellwig bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Hellwig takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

Montros misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Montros connects with a nice looking jab.

Hellwig shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Montros keeping hold of Hellwig's head, controlling as best he can.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Montros manages to escape and get back to his feet!

Hellwig is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Montros misses with a hook. Hellwig ducked under it nicely.
Montros dodges the punch combination from Hellwig.

Hellwig closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Montros to the mat! Montros manages to get full guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Montros holds on and takes a little breather.

Montros kicks Hellwig off and gets to his feet.
Montros misses with a straight left.
Montros wants to land a leg kick but Hellwig is out of range.
Montros swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Montros throws a right hand that Hellwig ducks under and follows up with a left that Hellwig also avoids with ease.

Hellwig moves into the clinch successfully.
Hellwig tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Montros just stands there and leans against the cage.
Montros swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Montros gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Hellwig.
Montros is pressed up against the cage. Hellwig has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Montros down to the mat. Montros avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Montros is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Hellwig's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Hellwig's back!

James Hellwig overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Montros has his foot on Hellwig's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Hellwig works his way back into a safe position though.

Montros is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Hellwig is aware though and is defending well.

Hellwig wants to clinch up but Montros keeps it at a distance.
Hellwig's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Montros connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Hellwig scrambles back to his feet.

Hellwig shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Montros pinned against the cage. Montros gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Hellwig closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Hellwig looks up at the clock and then as Montros takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Hellwig smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Montros stalks Hellwig and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Hellwig's face. Hellwig staggers backwards, shaken.
Montros stuffs the takedown attempt from Hellwig. Hellwig gets slowly back to his feet.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Montros enables Hellwig to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Montros manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Montros had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Hellwig defends it easily.

Montros looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Hellwig has picked Montros up and slammed him! Montros can't keep hold of the triangle and Hellwig manages to pass to side control!
Hellwig creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

Montros is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Hellwig rolls with it to try and escape but Montros cranks on the arm and Hellwig is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
