PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Richard Dawn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Otou Hek (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hek is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Tha Playah. Otou Hek will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Richard Dawn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Otou Hek!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Nard Betker and Saam Ante.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hek tries to clinch

and Dawn decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Hek's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Dawn wants to stand but Hek has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Dawn gets to his feet. Hek looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Dawn drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Hek being controlled here, momentarily.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Hek is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Dawn controls from within his opponent's guard.
Hek pulls Dawn in to control the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Dawn slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Richard Dawn just wasn't active enough.
Dawn shoots in for a takedown but Hek shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Dawn shoots for a double leg takedown but Hek sprawls well. He's pushed Dawn's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

and Hek counters with a lovely straight right hand!
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Richard Dawn. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Dawn has his takedown stuffed
and Hek counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Hek will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Hek scores with a head kick. Dawn tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.
Hek tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Dawn manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Hek fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Dawn avoids it really well and circles away.

Hek gets caught flat footed, as Dawn shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Hek wants to hit a switch here but Dawn passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Hek there!
Hek is trying desperately to improve position.
Dawn looking to finish with strikes here!

Dawn swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Hek is now in Dawn's guard. A big mistake from Dawn there, giving up the dominant position!

Dawn looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Hek looking to sit in guard and control but Dawn gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hek has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Dawn has passed into side control.
Hek is trying to control Dawn's posture but Dawn avoids it.
Dawn throws a strike aimed at the side of Hek's head but Hek avoids it well.

Dawn wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Hek, who protects the arm well.
Dawn really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Hek is trying to control Dawn's posture but Dawn avoids it.

Dawn tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Hek tries to bench press Dawn off him but Dawn keeps the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Richard Dawn dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Hek looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Dawn is fending him off so far but Hek persists. Nope, Dawn circles away and we're back to standing.
Hek lands with a hook. Dawn tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Dawn shoots in for a double leg but Hek sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Dawn changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Hek tries to avoid it but Dawn manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Hek to the ground. Hek escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Dawn looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Hek is fending him off so far but Dawn persists. Nope, Hek circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Richard Dawn. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hek looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Hek is looking to clinch but Dawn is avoiding it.

Hek shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Hek must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Dawn working for a triangle but Hek defends it easily.

Hek got a little sloppy there for a moment and Dawn has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Hek has managed to get both his arms back between Dawn's legs - danger averted.

Dawn working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Hek doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Dawn is tightening it up a little... Hek has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Hek reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Hek taps out! Nice BJJ there by Dawn!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:19 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Richard Dawn!
Richard Dawn decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
