PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kenneth Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and mikki Hiiri (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Kenneth Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, mikki Hiiri!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Matti Vanhoillinen and Tarja Halkonen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hiiri gets a takedown into half guard.
Hiiri tries to stand and escape but Smith is controlling the position.
Hiiri is looking to take a break and control but Smith is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Hiiri is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Smith is looking to improve his position.
Hiiri seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Smith does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Smith is trying to control but can't.
Smith wants to get back to full guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Hiiri drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Hiiri jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Smith escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hiiri gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Hiiri stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Smith swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Smith is trying to keep Hiiri in close.
Hiiri has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Smith is proving hard to escape from.

Hiiri wants to pass the guard but Smith is keeping the position.
Hiiri must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Hiiri is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Smith is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Hiiri can do anything to dispel that myth.

Smith is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
