PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Brendan Brodie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fred King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Brendan Brodie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Fred King!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Donald Grub and Phil Schofield.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
King throws a leg kick but Brodie sees it coming and moves out of range.

King bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

King stands up and beckons Brodie to his feet.
King misses with a two punch combination.

King drives through with a takedown into Brodie's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
King wanted to stand there but Brodie had control of the position.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
King looks gassed!
Brodie controls King momentarily but King frees himself.

King avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

King gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Fred King seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
King takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Brodie checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Brodie slips under a jab from King.
King throws a low kick but Brodie avoids it.

A right-left combo lands from King.
A looping hook to the body misses from King. Brodie does a little dance to reset his feet.
King tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Brodie is able to avoid easily.
King throws a nice inside leg kick.
Brodie scores with a decent looking hook.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Brodie!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Brodie takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.

Brodie has closed the distance and engaged King in a clinch.

King escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
A combination from Brodie does no damage.
Brodie lands a head shot.
King throws a nice outside leg kick.
King motions for Brodie to come forward. King throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.

Brodie checks a leg kick.
Brodie throws a right hand that King ducks under and follows up with a left that King also avoids with ease.
Brendan Brodie is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
King does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
King attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Brodie on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by King. King obviously looking to wear him down.
Good work by Brodie as he checks the leg kick.
King throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Brodie.
Brodie chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before King can pounce on him.

King throws a leg kick but Brodie moved away.
King scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.

King misses with a body shot.
King takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Good leg kick by King there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Brodie looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

King shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Brodie manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
King must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Brodie is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Brodie has a closed guard, preventing King from standing up.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Brodie pulls King in close to prevent any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Fred King dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


King throws a quick inside leg kick.
Fred King seems to be getting the better of the standup.

King fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Brodie to the ground. King is now in Brodie's guard.
King is looking to stand up but Brodie won't let him.
Brodie controls King momentarily but King frees himself.

King gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Brodie lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as King backs up against the cage.
King is breathing heavily.
A low kick from King is predictable there
letting Brodie counter with a right hand.
King slips a jab and a cross from Brodie.

King misses with a leg kick
and Brodie counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
King misses with a low kick as Brodie jumps back.
Brodie will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Brodie takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by King.
King jabs Brodie right on the nose. Brodie blinks but takes it well.
King misses with a low kick.

King fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Brodie.

King throws a poor cross that misses
and Brodie counters with a lovely straight right hand!

King thows a left - swing and a miss!
King finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Brodie takes a shot to the body in his stride.

Brodie ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Brodie's corner calls for a 1-2. Brodie obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
King avoids the head kick by Brodie.
King misses the jab.
King thows a leg kick but Brodie checks it
and Brodie counters with a left and a right that stings King.
Brodie misses with a wild combination.
Brodie moves out of range as King strikes.
King tests Brodie's chin there with a solid looking shot.
King misses with an uppercut
and Brodie counters with a two punch combo.
King throws out a loose jab but Brodie uses good head movement to avoid it.

Brodie gets caught flat footed, as King shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

King wants to stand but Brodie has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Brodie is trying to control the position but King postures up.

King stands up from Brodie's guard - King perhaps looking for a knockout.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
King misses with a leg kick
and Brodie counters with a lovely straight right hand!
A jab from King finds it's way through Brodie's defenses.
Brodie throws a head kick that misses.
Brodie throws a nice looking combination but King bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Brodie takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
King cracks the inside of Brodie's front leg.
Brodie lands a two punch combo.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Fred King showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Brodie throws a sloppy head kick and King moves out of range easily.
King fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Brodie checks it well.
Brodie is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Brodie misses with a combination
and King makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
A chopping leg kick lands by King.
Some bone on bone action there as Brodie checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.

Brodie is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
King fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Brodie checks it well.
King throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

King throws a low kick, looking for Brodie's leg but Brodie calmly moves out of range.
Brendan Brodie is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Brodie is looking to clinch but King is avoiding it.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

King throws a hook but Brodie blocks it.
Brodie throws a right hand that King ducks under and follows up with a left that King also avoids with ease.

King jabs at Brodie's body.

King throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.

King jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
King throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Brodie gets caught flat footed, as King shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
King has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Brodie is proving hard to escape from.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Brodie is really struggling to control King but he's trying to hold on to the position.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Brendan Brodie.
King throws a hook but Brodie avoids it easily.
Brendan Brodie has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
King connects with a leg kick. Brodie looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
King will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
King throws a shot from downtown. Brodie moves away and avoids it.
King feints and then cracks Brodie's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Brodie down.
King misses with a straight left.

And that's the end of the fight!
Fred King comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got King winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
