PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Sean John (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fail Baroni (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Fail Baroni was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Sean John!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Fail Baroni!
The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Paulo Santos and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Baroni looks for a takedown but John sprawls well.
Baroni closes this distance looking for a takedown but John circles away.
Baroni shoots in looking for a takedown. John tries to sprawl out of it but Baroni keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. John manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Sean John has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Fail Baroni.
Baroni fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
No luck for Baroni with that takedown attempt.

Excellent takedown into side control there by John.

John stands up and beckons Baroni to his feet.

and John counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Baroni looks gassed!
Baroni has hold of John's hands but John slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.


Baroni is rocked!
This has been an exciting period of action!

John postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Baroni to stand up.
Baroni is still on wobbly legs! Can John finish him?
Baroni keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Baroni seems to have recovered his senses.
John wants to clinch up but Baroni keeps it at a distance.

Baroni closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Baroni lands in his opponent's guard.

John manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Baroni regains half guard.
John prevents Baroni from improving his position.
Baroni trying to hold on to John's head to control him but John postures up.

John is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

John's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Sean John just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Baroni takes a kick to the side of the head.
Baroni lands with a thumping leg kick.
John tries to clinch but Baroni is having none of it.

John misses with the combination.

John darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
John is looking to advance position but Baroni won't allow it.

Baroni looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Baroni is looking to improve his position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Baroni looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sean John dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


John misses the jab.
John throws a jab when Baroni was well out of range.
John tries to close the distance and clinch up but Baroni swats him away and circles back towards the center.

John clinches.
John lands a hook that snaps the head of Baroni backwards.
Baroni tries for a takedown but John manages to get underhooks.
Baroni dodges an elbow strike from John.
John trying to land knees to the body.
John throws an elbow but it misses.
A right handed body shot lands from John.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, John just misses with a elbow thrown towards Baroni's brow.
John gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Baroni.
Baroni is breathing heavily.
John scores with a shot to the side of Baroni's head.

John gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Baroni regains guard.
John seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
John has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
John wants to pass the guard but Baroni is keeping the position.

Baroni keeping moving, preventing John from controlling successfully.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
John is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
John has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
John wants to stand but Baroni has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
John thows a big elbow that misses.
John looking to sit in guard and control but Baroni gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
John is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

John takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
John is pressing down on Baroni's thigh, looking to free his foot. Baroni is holding on for now.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with John in particular looking to stall.
Baroni is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Baroni wants to sweep but John has passed to side control!
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Sean John just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Baroni slips under a jab from John.

John scores a takedown into full mount!
John sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Baroni is in all sorts of trouble here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sean John dominated that second round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


John misses with a series of wild punches.

John fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Baroni, pushing him back against the cage.

John swings away with an uppercut that misses.

Baroni has John pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. John manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

A nice glancing elbow lands by John.
Baroni drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Baroni on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Baroni takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
John lands a nice elbow from the clinch.

Baroni has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. John is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Sean John has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Fail Baroni.
John misses with a knee to the head.
John misses with an elbow strike.
Baroni blocks an elbow strike.
John prevents the takedown attempt.
John with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Baroni jumps guard but John stands there with Baroni around his waist. Baroni gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Baroni's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
John landing some nice looking knees to the body.
Baroni blocks an elbow strike from John.

John breaks the clinch.
John misses with a double jab.

Baroni closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming John to the mat! John manages to get full guard.
Baroni stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. John swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Baroni is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! John is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! John has escaped and now he's on top!
John slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Baroni has an active guard here but John has managed to pass into half guard.
Baroni wants to get back to full guard but John has passed into side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
John looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Baroni is trying desperately to improve position.
Baroni is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
John takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Baroni can't escape the position.
John tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
John looking to control but Baroni is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
John takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Fail Baroni has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Baroni is wriggling around trying to escape.

And that's the end of the fight!
Sean John showed his dominance in that final round.
Well John has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
