The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Merithweather just misses with a punch to the body.
Ripcord keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Merithweather misses with a wild body shot.
Merithweather lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Ripcord takes one to the side of the head.
Ripcord should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

and Ripcord decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Merithweather's guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Ripcord is looking to advance position but Merithweather has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Merithweather is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!

Ripcord feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Merithweather pushes Ripcord off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Ripcord has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

Ripcord drops his hands momentarily and Merithweather takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.

Ripcord drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Ripcord throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Merithweather works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Merithweather wants to stand but Ripcord is controlling the position.
Ripcord wants to get up but he can't break Merithweather's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Merithweather misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Ripcord.
Ripcord fails with the takedown.
Merithweather moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.

Merithweather throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Ripcord takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.

Ripcord takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Merithweather lands a big right hook! Ripcord looks hurt but is still standing! Merithweather lands a left jab and another right hook! This time Ripcord falls down and Merithweather dives in with a huge hammer fist! Ripcord's eyes roll back! The referee calls for the bell and Merithweather runs up the cage to celebrate with his fans!
