PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dante Melendez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Damian Wolkowski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Damian Wolkowski told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Dante Melendez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Damian Wolkowski!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Aafke Stam and Saam Ante.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wolkowski shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Melendez as he avoids it easily.
Melendez fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Melendez looks to land a combination but Wolkowski avoids it well.
Wolkowski has a takedown stuffed.
Dante Melendez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Damian Wolkowski.
Melendez takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Wolkowski is looking to clinch.
Wolkowski shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Melendez cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Wolkowski misses the shot to the body.
A telegraphed right hand from Wolkowski misses the target.

and Melendez counters with a left to the body.

and Melendez counters with a nice uppercut.

Wolkowski closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Melendez to the mat! Melendez manages to get full guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Wolkowski trying to control the position from guard on top but Melendez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Melendez is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Wolkowski throws a strike but Melendez rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Wolkowski is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Wolkowski lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Melendez!

Poor strikes thrown by Wolkowski there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Wolkowski jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Melendez is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Melendez and Wolkowski has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Melendez on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Melendez tries to get out of the position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Wolkowski is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Melendez is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Wolkowski tries to score with some ground and pound. Melendez controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Wolkowski wants to control but Melendez is keeping him busy.

Wolkowski is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Melendez knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Wolkowski tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Wolkowski's corner calls for a 1-2. Wolkowski obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

and Melendez counters with a three punch combo that has Wolkowski backing up. Wolkowski nods at Melendez to acknowledge the strikes.

Melendez moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Melendez tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Wolkowski was well out of range. Poor timing from Melendez.

Wolkowski closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Melendez did well to prevent Wolkowski getting side control.
Wolkowski wants to pass the guard but Melendez is defending well.

Wolkowski is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Wolkowski is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Wolkowski is trying to control. Melendez wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Wolkowski seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Melendez is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Damian Wolkowski!
Damian Wolkowski decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
