PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rory McCling (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frank Lucas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lucas has chosen Jay-Z- American Gangster as his entrance music. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rory McCling!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Frank Lucas!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Russell Pearce and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McCling misses with a wild combination.
Lucas is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

McCling gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Lucas wants to break the clinch but can't.
Lucas holding his opponent close, against the cage.
McCling wants to get back to striking at distance but Lucas won't allow it.

Lucas lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.

Lucas is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
McCling pushes Lucas off looking to stand but Lucas dives back in and keeps control.
Lucas tries to pass the half guard into mount. McCling knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

McCling makes his way to full guard. A much better position for McCling.
McCling is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Lucas drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Lucas jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Lucas gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
McCling stuffs the takedown.

Lucas throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. McCling tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Lucas is in McCling's guard.
Lucas advances to half guard.
McCling has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Lucas is working away from the top position though.

Lucas is sneakily working for an arm triangle but McCling sees it coming and defends easily.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

McCling won't allow Lucas to pass to mount.

Lucas is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!
Horrible takedown by Lucas or perhaps it was just good defense by McCling which made him look bad.

McCling has managed to clinch.

McCling breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Lucas throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around McCling's waist but McCling gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Lucas off to one side.
Rory McCling has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Frank Lucas.

McCling has closed the distance and engaged Lucas in a clinch.

McCling breaks from the clinch.

McCling rushes Lucas and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Lucas pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

McCling darts in and clinches Lucas up against the cage.
Lucas using the Thai plumb to throw knees but McCling has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

McCling is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Lucas can't fight it off and eventually McCling manages to take the fight to the floor. Lucas looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

McCling avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Lucas looking for a sweep. Not yet Lucas, not yet.
McCling is pushing down on Lucas's leg trying to pass to half guard. Lucas is fighting to maintain full guard but McCling has managed to sneak the leg through.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Frank Lucas dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Lucas is trying hard to land a takedown here. McCling sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

McCling gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Lucas to score an easy takedown into full guard.
McCling has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Lucas would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Lucas passes into half guard.

Lucas seems to be working for a kimura but McCling defends the submission attempt.

Lucas jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but McCling manages to avoid the submission attempt.

You can see the frustration on McCling's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
McCling tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
McCling just looking to survive in the bad position.
McCling breaks Lucas's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

McCling stops Lucas from standing up.
Lucas wants to sweep but no luck.
McCling stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Lucas swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Lucas manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
McCling tries to hold on but Lucas postures up.

Lucas is going oldschool here, as he tries to force McCling to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so McCling shrugs it off.

Lucas stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
Lucas closes the distance and clinches up with McCling, looking for a takedown. Lucas pushes McCling against the cage but McCling circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Frank Lucas showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Lucas has McCling pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Lucas pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending McCling tumbling to the mat - Lucas dives into McCling's guard.
McCling will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

McCling is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Lucas is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
McCling landing rabbit punches to the side of Lucas's head. Not doing much damage but still scoring a few points.

McCling kicks Lucas off and gets back to his feet.

Lucas feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

McCling is working an open guard so Lucas takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Lucas drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Lucas is trying to drag McCling to the mat but McCling just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Lucas is looking for a takedown up against the cage. McCling gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Frank Lucas is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

McCling has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Lucas is trying to keep an underhook but McCling manages to get the takedown into half guard.

I would just about give that final round to Frank Lucas.
I've got Lucas winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
