PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between DJ Puggles (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eddie King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). King is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Seasons in the Abyss. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, DJ Puggles!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Eddie King!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Joseph Jones and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
King dodges the punch combination from Puggles.
King tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Puggles swivels and escapes.
Puggles throws a nice looking combination but King bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Puggles shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. King eats them both and turns towards Puggles to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
A punch combination from Puggles misses.

Puggles closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. King quickly recovers to half guard.
King tries to roll over but Puggles keeps him under control.
Puggles is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Puggles tries to stand and escape but King is controlling the position.
King is staying active underneath Puggles, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
King tries to get to full guard but Puggles has control of the leg.

That's one minute gone in the round.

King looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Puggles thows a huge punch but King dodges it nicely.
Puggles keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
It looks like Puggles is going to stand back up.
Puggles missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Puggles passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for King!
Puggles tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Poor strikes thrown by Puggles there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Puggles throws some wild stikes that King manages to avoid easily.
Puggles throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Puggles wants to control the pace but King is squirming around nicely.
King keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

King regains half guard.
Puggles throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Puggles is keen to just control but King is a slippery customer.
King moves into full guard.
Puggles stands and throws King's legs to the side, diving into side control.
King sneaks back into half guard.

King has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Puggles is working away from the top position though.
Puggles missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
King trying to control but Puggles postures up.

Still in half guard, Puggles seems content to control.
King keeping control of the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
King fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Puggles avoids it really well and circles away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

DJ Puggles dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


King throws a body punch but Puggles moves out of range.

Puggles closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Puggles lands in his opponent's guard.
Puggles throws a strike but King rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

King trying to control the position from guard on top but Puggles is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Puggles wants to sweep but no luck.
King pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Puggles is keeping the position for now.
King wants to control from the top but Puggles keeps moving.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
King won't allow Puggles to sweep him here.
DJ Puggles overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

The ref stands the fighters back up because DJ Puggles just wasn't active enough.
Puggles throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent King stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

King shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Puggles looks like he's trying to stand up.
King trying to control from half guard but Puggles is working away.
Puggles is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
King trying to control the action but Puggles is working from the bottom.
King content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Eddie King was stalling too much, according to the referee.
King blocks a head kick by Puggles.
Puggles catches King with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Puggles tries to clinch but King moves out of range.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Puggles shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in King's guard.
King looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
King keeping moving, preventing Puggles from controlling successfully.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

King looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Puggles stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. King swivels though and keeps the full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that DJ Puggles will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


King circles away from the clinch attempt.
Puggles lands a glancing blow to the side of King's head.

Puggles shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. King manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Puggles throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
King keeping moving, preventing Puggles from controlling successfully.

Puggles stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Puggles looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
King misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
King takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

That's one minute gone in the round.
King shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Puggles as he avoids it easily.
Good standup being displayed there by Puggles as he connects with a hook.

Puggles instigates a clinch.
Puggles wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Puggles is trying to break the clinch but King has him pressed against the cage.
King wants to stall.
King is trying to slow the pace down but that's a couple of times in a row that he's tried to get underhooks and Puggles has denied him.

Puggles pulls guard.
Puggles working a defensive guard but King passes into half guard.
Puggles is trying to get back to full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Puggles is working hard here to advance position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Puggles has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. King is working away from the top position though.

King seems to be looking for submissions.
Puggles on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Puggles tries to get out of the position.

King is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Puggles doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time King.

King stops Puggles from getting back to his feet.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

King is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

King looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

And that's the end of the fight!
DJ Puggles showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Puggles has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
