PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between James Green (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Leonard Stam (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stam comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Tony Iommi - Grace kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! On his way into the cage it seems that James Green has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily James Green seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

With a record of 11 - 18 - 0, fighting out of London, Leonard Stam!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Andrew Berry and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stam throws a jab but it's blocked by Green.
Stam stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Stam wants it to stay on the feet.

Stam scores with a takedown into Green's guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Green is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Stam decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Green swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Stam misses with a few strikes there.
Stam scores with a nice right hand.


It looks like James Green has been cut.

Stam tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Green counters with a stiff right hand.
Stam ducks under a wild hook from Green.
Stam throws a shot from downtown. Green moves away and avoids it.
Nice straight punches there by Green. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Green.
Stam misses the jab.

Stam gets caught flat footed, as Green shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Stam escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Green gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Green postures up and lands a big shot to Stam's brow.

Stam is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Green won't allow Stam to get back to his feet.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Green with a flurry of punches that miss.

Green thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Green lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Green throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Stam works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Green drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Green jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Stam pushes Green off and gets back to his feet.
Green shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Stam but Stam pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Green displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Stam throws out the jab.
Stam swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Stam's corner calls for a 1-2. Stam obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Stam moves in looking to clinch but Green pushes him off.
Green throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Stam throws an overhand right that lands on Green's shoulder, as Green tries to avoid the shot.

Green has closed the distance and engaged Stam in a clinch.

Green drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for James Green. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Stam lands on the inside with an uppercut.

Stam pulls guard successfully.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Green prevents Stam from getting back to his feet.
Green will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Green lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Stam throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Stam throws a body punch but Green moves out of range.
Stam avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Green tests Stam's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Leonard Stam seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A slow jab from Stam misses its intended target.
Stam tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Green manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Green gets a takedown into half guard.
Leonard Stam has got the better of the ground game so far.
Stam is trying to stand.
Stam is refusing to be controlled, as Green sits in half guard.
Green thows a huge punch but Stam dodges it nicely.

Green is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Green is just content to waste time from the top position. Stam takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Green got a little sloppy there for a moment and Stam has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Green has managed to get both his arms back between Stam's legs - danger averted.
Green lands a couple of digs.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Green drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Stam manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Green has Stam in his guard.

Green shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Stam manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Green avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Green trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Green loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Green sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Stam's guard.

Stam is defending against the submission attempts here by Green.

Green is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Stam manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Stam looks to land a right hand but Green moved out of range.
Green bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Green is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Green stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Green fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Green slips a jab and a cross from Stam.
Stam changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Green tries to avoid it but Stam manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Green to the ground. Green escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Stam loads up on a big right hand but Green slips the punch.
Green throws a good cross that connects.
Stam ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Green moves away.
Stam looks for a takedown but Green sprawls well.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Stam wants to clinch up but Green keeps it at a distance.
Green misses with the combination.
Stam lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Green swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Stam tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Green paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Stam throws out a powerful jab.
Green lands with a good body shot.
Stam misses with a looping right.
Green is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.

Green fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Stam to the ground. Green is now in Stam's guard.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Stam working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Green doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Green manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Stam has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Green can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Green is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Stam is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Stam has escaped and now he's on top!

He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Stam looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Green! Submission of the night perhaps?

James Green really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that Fossington & Blythe: Gentlemen's Fight Attire logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
