PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ryan Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mathew Maynard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Maynard has chosen do it as his entrance music. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Steve Smith and Gregory Folan.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maynard thows a body shot but no joy.

Gracie closes the distance and clinches.
Maynard misses with a short punch on the inside.
Maynard tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Maynard breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Gracie bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Maynard misses the jab.
Gracie tries to score a power double leg takedown but Maynard sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Gracie somewhat.

Maynard feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Gracies jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

Maynard looks to land a right hand but Gracie moved out of range.
Maynard misses with a hook. Gracie ducked under it nicely.

Gracie tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Maynard was well out of range. Poor timing from Gracie.
Maynard slaps away a takedown attempt from Gracie, before circling back to the center of the mat.

and Maynard takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Maynard leaves Gracie with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Gracie does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

Maynard looks to land a right hand but Gracie moved out of range.
Maynard is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Gracie.
Sloppy strikes from Maynard. Those never looked like landing.
Maynard throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Gracie stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Maynard works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Maynard shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Gracie sprawls well. Gracie wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Maynard gets slowly back to his feet.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Maynard bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Maynard is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Gracie is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Gracie walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Maynard checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.

Gracie seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Maynard does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Maynard changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Gracie tries to avoid it but Maynard manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Gracie to the ground. Gracie escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Gracie has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Gracie there as he acknowledges the shot.

Well Maynard has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
